After a long, hectic day Tuesday, my girls (13 and 10) and I decided to take a late ride in the MGB (this is what we do to unwind). It was after 9 PM, but with the high temps in Ga lately, it's actually the best time to ride. We rode for almost 2 1/2 hrs and we all felt great (although tired) when we got home and finally went to bed.
Around 2:30 am I woke up to my phone ringing. It was my mother telling me my youngest brother (who's 26) had been in an accident and I needed to come to the hospital. Upon getting there, I found out that his condition was more serious than I had initially thought. He was "testing out" a camaro his best friend had just bought and lost control in a curve. The car flipped 3 times and they were both ejected from the vehicle, but thankfully my brothers's friend wasn't hurt at all (which is a miracle) and was able to run to a nearby house and call 911 for help. There was truly someone looking out for them in this.
My brother has been incredibly lucky though this entire ordeal. He had severe injuries to his head (he has many stitches in the top of his head and the docter said he came a millimeter from hitting his brain...I'm minimizing what happened because I don't want to be too graphic) not to mention the other cuts he has on his face. Amazingly, he has no broken bones even though they estimate he was thrown 70 feet. As bad as he looks right now (barely recognizable...although getting better by the day) we were all talking tonight about how lucky he is (as well as our family that he's still with us).
Since the accident, I've only been coming home to sleep, bathe, check the mail (and email, of course) and haven't really had time to think about things until tonight when I finally knew he was going to be OK.
I just got home about an hour ago and keep having these thoughts running through my head. Never forget to tell the ones you care about how much they mean to you. Life is a precious gift, that I think we all take for granted, until something happens. Cherish the day! Enjoy the moments you have, because tomorrow is never promised.
I'm not trying to sound melodramatic, but this whole situation really hit home for me. I think I just needed to talk about it.
Thanks for listening,
Stephanie
