The Clinton's are so poor, "fill in the blank"

Would make for a funny thread.

Yeah because money solves all problems. </sarcasm>

Imagine every move you make being watched. Imagine living in the fear of kidnapping or violence. Imagine people pointing and talking about you everywhere you go. Internet forum clowns criticizing everything you do. Terrible life.

All this for $600k a year? Sounds like a lot to you but it doesn't go very far in real life, especially in NY.

OP, that was a moronic post.

So now, since she quit her job, all of those problems went away. Right?

You guys are missing the point entirely. You don't take the bus if you make $600k a year. I would feel like a moron working a high profile job making $600k a year and then having to take the bus. I would feel like I'm getting ripped off knowing I could move to the midwest or south and make $100k, less pressure on my job, and drive a Benz and live in a 5 bedroom new house.

You don't work a high end job and live a low end lifestyle. If you do, you missed the point. If you can claw your way to a $600k a year job and cannot reap any rewards from it, what was the point?

You have a pretty nice retirement at that amount...

Also, you can rent an apartment as large as a house, even in NYC, and drive a pretty nice car, and you'll still have money left over.

Looking at NYC apartment prices, the highest I could find was $7k. Let's say Chelsea is paying $10k a month. That's the biggest expense right there, and really the only thing that's going to be a "fixed" expense.

Or to put this another way, by herself, $600k puts Chelsea in the top 1/2% of wealth in this nation, before accounting for her husband. It is worth noting though, that the NYC area (including parts of NJ) is the only place in the country I could find where Chelsea wouldn't be in the top 1% by herself, instead she's only in the top 2%. She's just barely in the 1% in San Francisco and DC areas.

I still don't see how $600k is barely doable in Manhattan. A nice 2 bedroom apartment in the financial district will run $7,500-$10,000 a month. BMW 5 series to get around town. Clothing maybe $2k a month. That's what? $15k a month tops. Or less than half of your $600k figure (when split monthly and after taxes). You're full of shit. Even $250k in Manhattan and you'll be living a good life.

He's completely full of shit. Either trolling, or just completely clueless. Even 10k a month is a fortune for housing, last year my GF lived in a nice 2 BR in the upper east side that was $2500 total.

hes been completely full of shit for years

You are talking about a guy that brags on the forum about buying $200 jeans and driving an over priced Civic. It's hard to look at something objectively when perception is 100% based on image and materialism. Of course $600k won't go far when you are that heavily skewed towards materialism making much less.

What do you mean, highest? Where are you looking? You can rent apartments in NYC for $250k a month.

$7k a month will buy you a dump or a cracker box.

Here is a one bedroom for $7k a month:

One freakin bedroom. Make $600k and live in a one bedroom.

Hate to break it to you, but that link is neither a dump nor a cracker box. The kitchen alone is bigger than a lot of studio apartments I've stayed in. It might be pricey, but that's a beautiful place to live as far as apartments.

Looks nice. Almost the same as the place I just rented, though of course I am not paying anywhere near that much.

KT

It's a one bedroom. My point is, it's a one bedroom. Make $600k and deal with the responsibilities of a $600k a year job just to live in a one bedroom? I'd feel like I'm getting ripped off.

$400k net? What?

No. Taxes are much more outrageous in NYC than that for high earners. She would earn about $320k/yr. She would get about $193k taken out from federal taxes, $7.2k in social security, $12.3k in medicare, $43k from new york state, $31.20 from SDI, and $23.7k from NYC tax.

$80k is significant...

$600k after taxes in about $400k a year. That's $34k a month. Even if you spent half your salary on housing, that's only $17k a month for housing. Do some shopping for a place in Manhattan, you get crap for that amount. Maybe a 2 or 3 bedroom in a safe area. $400k is middle class in NY. I'm not sure you have a grasp on how expensive NYC is.

$600k goes a long way where I live but not in NY.

Average monthly rent in Manhattan is about $3500.

$17k housing alliance is almost 5 times that amount. Fairly certain you can live very comfortably on $34k/mo take home.

Sounds about right. I don't know her tax situation, but this is assuming that she just file married and thats it. No deductions or tax credits loop hole.
