The ones I've come across at my local grocery stores, Safeway and Giant, have a liquid cheese mix that comes in a bottle and is considerably watery/low viscousity.

I'd like to get something similar to the the kind of the cheese sauce (THICK and creamy) as found in Kraft's or Annie's (preferred due to less synthetic ingredients) 11-12 oz boxes.

The baked mac an cheese I've made is no where as good. :(

Since you seem to prefer the taste of fake cheese sauce, try making it with Velveeta or, buy a can of nacho cheese sauce.

Doubt if it might be what your looking for but it might be in mild.

Gordo's is a bit above average for that use most of the time.

We almost always have something a container of this in the fridge for anything along those lines, chili fries, veggies, nachos, etc.

It takes all of 15 minutes to start with a block of real cheddar cheese and end up with a very good cheese sauce. Too time consuming?

You must have missed the part where he'd rather have something that tastes like an 89 cent box of neon colored powdered cheese-like stuff that eight-year-olds prefer.

Last time I ate a box of that Kraft stuff, it just didn't have the appeal that it did when I was in third grade. I actually found myself _adding_ salt, if you can believe it. I guess our tastes (as well as our taste buds) change over the decades.

Mac and cheese is like pizza, the worst isn't really that bad, and the best is close to the food of the gods.

If you have no cooking skill, ie ask for food suggestions in off topic, start with Velveta and add all the non moldy cheese left in the fridge a little at a time until you like the taste.

Check a store with a large bulk foods section. I know the Winco in town lets you buy cheese powder by the pound.

The thickest mac and cheese I've made used sodium citrate and a completely absurd amount of cheese.

You could just melt cheese and butter, with perhaps some cream, until you get the desired viscosity of sauce.

Make a basic white sauce, add American processed cheese or grated cheddar and some spices, mix in with cooked macaroni. Takes about the same amount of time to make as Kraft Dinner and tastes a hell of a lot better. Especially if you used real cheese.
