Cheerleader gets flu shot and now can only walk backwards

Regardless of this story, I'm happy letting my body deal with the flu naturally IF I happen to get it. Small pox, yeah, give me the shot. An extended cold? I think I can handle that.

When I'm 60 maybe I'll change my mind.

Flu shot did not do this to her.

yep.

gotta love the media. Sure, she could have triggered this inborn neurological disorder any number of ways: falling in training, for example, but OMG she just took a flu shot!!!

There is no credible evidence that the flu vaccination triggers such disorders in any given year more than the statistical average. It certainly doesn't cause any of this, mind you.

Morally bankrupt journalism: priceless.

it really only takes one instance of shoddy journalism when it comes to medical info to poison the knowledge base for the masses. This can and most likely will be proven beyond doubt to have no link to the vaccine within a week or so, but it won't matter.

same issue arose in GB with the HPV vaccine a few months ago.

I would agree, but you have to understand, the flu vaccine, is constantly evolving. Look into the H1N1 vaccine work for instance and you'll begin to understand its not quite as cut and dry as that.

That's one of the things that makes battling the flu a pain for the medical field. Even if you don't really get sick yourself you can still function as a carrier. Sure, you alone is probably not going to be missed, but multiply that by the number of people that can get infected and it has a much more significant impact. Granted the flu is very difficult for them to deal with due to its innate characteristics, but the mindset of people who think its not a big deal is definitely not helping them. Keep in mind that they're particularly worried due to the H1N1 strain, and so the less resources needed to handle strains that can be somewhat managed, the better off things will be if some strains turn out to be very harmful.

As others have said, I'm fairly doubtful it was the vaccine, and I don't support blind blame, but I can somewhat understand it. I don't agree that they deserve to be compensated just because, but I can't really fault them as this likely ruined her life. Right now, everyone loses from this situation as it puts blame without facts to support it, and the girl has to be miserable.

I said this in the other thread as well. There is ABSOLUTELY NO EVIDENCE that the flu shot had ANYTHING to do with her dystonia. It's an outright lie to state the flu shot caused this as a fact. It's absolutely nothing more than complete speculation.

WTF?????

If this is true, that is one of the most bizarre things I've ever seen/heard.

:Q

That is freaking weird. I guess she needs to run everywhere she goes. What if she jogs in place, will that allow her to talk normally? Is there any sort of cure for dystonia? That's some bizarre shit.

Also, I am going to hell along with many others in this thread.

Pretty sure that's just a mental thing. Doubt there's anything physically wrong with her.

Save the cheerleader, save the flu shot.

So does anyone know if the flu shot caused this or if it's just a coincidence?

Depends. Whatever caused it messed with her brain. Did the vaccine cause something to go haywire and affect that part of her brain? Possibly but it's not known yet. If it started happening right after the shot, then it's likely.

Correlation does not mean causation.

This. Maybe she had honey nut cheerios that morning as well and that caused it, or perhaps she walked by some sewer drain and got a wiff of some chemical that was dumped and that caused it.. the flu shot is just another event in her recent history. There is no evidence that the flu shot had any effect.

ticket to hell

Ok, I was doing good until I saw that. Now I'm going to hell.

Well I think I've had my ticket to hell verified and stamped VIP for quite a long time now. I'm pretty sure I have now earned a personal trip to hell escorted by only the man himself. That will be a lively conversation I'm quite sure of it.
