Cheddar's.

Belgian Waffler
It's a restaurant chain for those unfamiliar. For those that are familiar, I have a question - is it always this popular?

We had a Cheddar's open up in Huntsville late last year, and every single day since, rain or shine, there is a waiting line out the door. Hell, there's usually even a line before it opens. The wait for a table there is generally 30 minutes to ~2 hours give or take depending on the day. But I'm talking even at odd hours, like 2pm there's usually a huge wait.

I've been there, the food is good, the prices are decent, but I have no clue why it's so damn popular.

I have one by my house and when I pass by the parking lot it's usually packed. I personally have never been there but my buddy says that its really good food and pretty cheap compared to the other similar chains.

Reading your post I take it you have already eaten there? If so, is the food worth the time you wait in line? If yes then there you go, that's why its so packed.

Because the food is awesome, all made from scratch at the restaurant and the prices are cheap.

Try the ribs, steak or chicken tenders or country fried steak. Make sure to get the broccoli casserole, it's to die for.

Wow. It's actually a franchise? I never new that. We had one for years in Peoria, IL for years. Never ate there...no clue on the appeal other than it seems like a psuedo-upscale place that is halfway between Applebees and a true sit down higher class restaurant.

It's cheap, I have one down the street from where I am. When they first opened up their food was awesome, portions were awesome, price was awesome.

Now? The last few times I went (different times/dates far apart) the food has been mediocre, the plating has been garbage, the portions have been cut nearly in half, quality of food is crap. Something always seems to come out disgusting. Even appetizers and salads have turned to shit.

It's a shame really. I don't know if it's just the one here or what.

I went to the one in my area with about 10 people, and we were there for a good 2 hours because our food took too long, and it wasn't as busy as you say. I wasn't impressed. This back in 2008.

It's always busy because the food is incredible and the prices are cheap. You just not going to find food that good for that cheap.

The food is not incredible, it is barely average. Comparable to Chili's or Applebee's if you ask me.

Why would I eat there when I can walk into any number of Mom & Pop/Hole in the wall places and eat better food for the same or less $?

Hell I ate lunch today at a great little hole in the wall Mexican place for less than $5.

There's one right down the road from me. I've never been there or ever really had the urge. Seems like yet another Chili's, TGI Fridays, Applebee's, Bennigans, clone with zany crap on the wall.

looks like yet another chili's to me

maybe a little more upscale like champps but same basic thing

Must be just yours then. The food at ours is really incredibly good homey cooking. Steaks are pretty decent as well. And it is ALWAYS packed. Even on weekend lunches there's a wait. Forget about dinner, people are always lined up out the door with an hour wait and it's been there maybe 9 years.

I'm not lying when I say I've eaten there well over 100 times. We do lunch there almost every saturday. Probably the best chicken tenders I've ever eaten. There buffalo chicken wrap is the bomb! I can normally only eat half of it and take the other half home and it's only 6 bucks, easily enough food for two people.

there is simply no comparison of their food to applebees, et all. It's not even the same league.

Yeah, we went there once, finally got a table after about an hour wait. This wasn't long after they opened. Their food was good, but I didn't feel it was anything special/out of the ordinary for restaurants. They may not rely on as many "prepared items from the freezer", but everything was fine. Prices were maybe a hair below average chain restaurants, but most definitely not notable. Atmosphere was good, but because the place was packed (with probably another 50 extra people waiting for tables) it was loud as hell.

Personally, I'll take Logan's any day over Cheddar's. Unfortunately with a peanut allergy in the family, that ain't happening anymore.

Im from Huntsville as well. I dont understand the attraction with the place. Its good but nothing I would wait long for. But hey its just another thing to add more traffic to University Drive.....lol
