Does anyone have the CCSA or CCSE from Checkpoint and how hard were the tests? My work is thinking of sending me to boot camp and I just want to be prepared.

TIA

It depends how strong you are with networking to begin with.

If you know your stuff, all you have to do is learn the product, and that's not too tough.

If you don't have a firm grasp on networking, I could see it being difficult, especially if it's a bootcamp. They wont take out any time to explain the basics.

I've been a network admin for two years and have been in IT in various positions for about 8 years. I think I have somewhat a grasp of the technology ;)

Gand,

If you have strong knowledge of the IP stack all the way up then it isn't too big of a deal, just specific product knowledge.

But if you don't fully understand the innerworkings of IP and its applications it can be a little difficult. Boot camp might be a little strong, a one week class should be enough.

From what I hear they also highly recommend you have some experience with Checkpoint software prior to arriving.

I will be going through somewhat of the same training here soon but mine will only be 1 week long for both CCSA and CCSE concepts and they recommend having used the product for some time and be familar with the concepts of Firewalls and VPN.

It can be a hard product to learn if you havn't had experience with Unix, Solaris, or even Firewalls in general.

The best preparation you can do is get a demo of their product and play around with it before showing up to class. If you have the opportunity to install it on Solaris or NT or even have a Nokia applicance then spend some time with the interface. Will help you out significantly.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Ok, maybe I just didn't give enough background. Just to let you know, we have been running Checkpoint eversince I've been here (two years) on a Sun 250 box. About two months ago we had a demo Nokia 540 installed with NG on it. That has been running great since. We are purchasing a Nokia 730 next month. (Perfect Order wants thier box back. :) ) I have a decent understanding of Unix and have been working with NG for a bit now. We just want the formal training so when there are problems we don't always need someone looking over our shoulds to help.

P.S. Just got OSPF running on the 530. Sweet!
