BREAKING NEWS: Ausm just now realizing that Walmart employee's are on food stamps and welfare. Continues to bitch about pay - yet doesn't understand the logic of minimum wage in relation to unskilled workers.

Also, Ausm learns that people can't wrap their tool, shit out babies just to qualify for said government assistance.

So I assume based on this you support the elimination of food stamps and medicaid so we cant stop the evil corporations from stealing our hard earned money. :colbert:

You don't find anything disturbing about having 70% of your workforce on Food stamps but are pocking 16.7 Billion/year in profit? So is this the "gifts" Rmoney was talking about?

So then what is your solution to this and how do you fix it?

I fully support cutting food stamps.

Problem solved, no more "gifts" for Walmart.

How much should skilled workers make over minimum wage?

For the past 20 years wages in some skilled work sectors have been stagnated.

In the 1970s and 1980s a skilled worker in the shipyards in southeast Texas made upwards close to 6X minimum wage. Which equaled out to $16 - $17 an hour in the late 1970s.

Now, they might make 1.5 - 2X minimum wage, or $9 - $14 an hour.

In the next 30 years we might see those same skilled workers making barely above minimum wage.

That entire post smacks of elitist, racist contention. My only hope for you is that you never have children. That kind of hate-think tends to get passed down like drug addiction or alcoholism.

Easy, businesses whose employees qualify for any form of public assistance must reimburse the government for the cost of that assistance. If their business model doesn't support paying a living wage, they can either change their business model or die so other, better structured businesses can take their place.

How's that sound?

How about just stop shopping at walmart so they die out. It would take a few hundred million people to agree but if we can agree that Canada is America's hat, why can't we agree that Walmart is a virus that has infected capitalism?

How about raising taxes on these corps whose employees have no choice but to go on gov programs?

edit: or what Bowfinger said above

Because a vast number of Americans are greedy, short-sighted, and ignorant. They don't know nor do they care that taxpayers are subsidizing companies like Walmart. All they know is they can save an extra eight cents on their Chinese-made junk if they shop there.

Sounds like the people who you want to help will be worse off, none of Walmarts competitors pay a living wage, and the business's that could afford to pay a living wage goods would be too expensive for the millions on welfare after you shut down Walmart/their competitors.

Also the US will have 25% unemployment or worse using your plan.

So you're OK with taxpayers subsidizing companies like Walmart in order to give relief to the poor, even though this is a highly inefficient approach to welfare?

Nonsense. Someone will still be selling goods to all those people. If it's not Walmart, it will be a company with a more self-sufficient business model. It might result in a net decrease in goods sold since poor people might have to make choices and cut back. It's not going to substantially increase unemployment, and might actually increase it by returning to the "old days" of smaller, local merchants.
