I saw a concert with Muse, Foo Fighters, and the Chili Peppers in 2000. Grohl took his guitar up into the stands of the arena he was playing in. He was standing in the seats that kind of overlooked the stage and spot lights were on him while he ripped a guitar solo. He was about to go back down the stairs to get on the stage again and a bunch of fans had crept up the stairs and onto the row he was playing on to get close...they totally blocked his path back to the stage. The song was still going, but his solo had ended. He took off down the row away from them and jumped into the concourse where the concessions, etc were. I could see the various tunnels from my seat and saw Grohl running with his guitar slung on his back with a mob of fans chasing after him.
He turned and ran down the stairs on the opposite side of the stage...all the way to the floor where he could jump back up on the stage. He swung the guitar around and got in front of the mic just in time to start singing again. That was the exact moment that I gained respect for him as a true performer. It was a heck of a show and as much as I like the Chili Peppers, I could have left after the Foo Fighters played and felt like I got my money's worth.
