Checking LCD monitor usage hours?

I bought a refurbed monitor and read this review on newegg:

Pros: Crystal Clear text
Swivel head for Portrait or Landscape
No setup issues -easy
matte finish screen, no harsh reflections - nice

Cons: Low Brightness
thousands of hours already registered usage

Other Thoughts: first monitor received had logged on 16,170 hours of use
second monitor received has 12,997 hours of use.
I guess it is IPS; the colors stay steady, when viewed from various angles.

How can someone check the usage hours? Here's the review/product for reference.

AFAIK, usage hour recordings require special software to do that.

After doing a little more research, apparently there is a way to get into diagnostics mode, altho neither of the suggestions I found worked.
