Checking data transfer rates via different connections with storage devices?

Is there a program I can run that will tell me the data transfer rate of any connection I have between my desktop and another device? For example between my desktop and a HDD hub via USB 3.0. TeraCopy tells me a 7200rpm SATA HDD is copying at 15MB/s via USB 3.0 on a hub but that seems slow.

The Windows 8/8.1/10 Task Manager should tell you.

Also, the HDD benchmark tools will give you an indication of the theoretical max transfer rates.

What are you copying? Is it big files? Is it directories full of small files? The former are mostly sequential writes and SHOULD be quite fast, the latter might have some random reads/writes thrown in and lots of seek times which will tank the average transfer rate.

Directories with a handful of videos and multiple videos selected at once and moved or copied.
