Ok, I am looking at buying my first web cam. I want a resolution of AT LEAST 640x480. I plan on spending around 60 bucks.

I checked out an IBM Net Cam and the specs look good. I checked out I/O Magic DR-CMUSB1 and its specs were close those of the IBM Net Cam. I also saw Intel's Deluxe PC Cam but I couldn't find specs for it. I went to Intel's site and it wasnt there. Is it discontinued? Should I grap it if I can?

Basically, out of the three choices, which do you think is the best one? Likes/Dislikes?

I don't know much about web cams so all info is welcome

Thanks

The intel cameras are very good. Their software is lacking however (as of the last time I checked, they did not work with Win2k/XP and would not ever). If all you want a webcam for is netmeeting type things (and not to use their 'fun and easy!' software), I'd reccomend an Intel camera. Both of the other cameras are decent, you really can't go wrong with any of them.

Why won't the Intel cams ever be able to work with XP? I have XP but haven't had the time to upgrade yet. I'm still using Win98.

So should I go with the IBM or I/O Magic instead?

I have the Intel Pro PC Cam and I love it. I am still using Win98 tho, so I haven't had any trouble.
The cam is on sale all over, Outpost for example Link, with a $30.00 rebate that brings it down to 20 or 30 bucks.

Intel is giving the updated software away here: Link info borrowed from this thread.

you can use the intel webcam in WinXP or 2k

Intel has the driver for XP and Win2k but not the software only....

I love my Intel PC camera Pro

I have another question.
The cams I am looking at have 640x480. They also say "up to 30fps." Does this mean that I would have to lower the resolution from 640x480 to get 30fps?

Does anyone know?
It would make sense that one would have to lower the res to get the 30fps, right? Just like displays?

Please let me know soon. I really want to get one since they are on sale this week.

Sorry I didn't make that more clear, what I meant was that the drivers for 2k/xp are available for intel cams, but the included software will not work. And afik you do not have to lower the res to get 30 fps.
