Ahhhh, no it doesn't. Pilots that fly into O'hare call it O'scare for a reason. Ask a pilot!

Some people call Chicago Chiraq. I think you should totally start calling the city Chiraq at every opportunity because someone else did for a reason! Get my point? Of course not :D

It is... it's just longer. I hate all the waiting around and the being cooped up in a tin can for 12 hours.

true but I was referring to domestic travel when abroad, ive taken 2 China Air flights and 1 Dragon Air flight in the past week jumping around inside China and to HK. economy class for those is more enjoyable then flying short distances inside the US

flying back at the end of the week is Business/first class on Delta

Throw your shit in a box and ship it. Gotta be cheaper than $40 to ship it there.

And that's each way.;)

Why do you need to do a checked bag for just 3 days?

A decent sized carry on will work even with a laptop.
The best I managed was 2 weeks with a carry-on and a small bag of a personal item small enough to fit beneath the seat. The hotel was near a laundromat. :)
(The hotel's laundry service was damned expensive. I could buy new clothes for what they would have charged.)

US Airways checked luggage experience: Stand in a long, slow line with BSOD'd check-in kiosks and only one or two people working the desk. Do online check-in: Still wait in line to drop off the already-checked luggage.

I did once end up with a canceled flight and had to get home on another airline. That was nicer. It even had in-flight advertising, also called "in-flight entertainment," for $5/movie I believe. My tablet had a better selection. I also like the fact that it didn't advertise at me at various times during the flight to tell me about our lord and savior, MasterCard.

Flew Southwest to Midway recently and no issues. By far the best of the bargain lines, and better than most of the "big names."

Spirit has a business model of lowest base fare and charging more for everything besides the seat on the plane. That works great for a lot of people but not for everyone. Depending on the particulars they can still be cheaper even after a bunch of add-on costs.

When Spirit's base fare is $300 cheaper than the big airline, paying to check bags or carry them on is not a deal-breaker. But they have tiny seats.

It works great because your average person is too stupid to understand this crazy thing called "Indirect costs"

i've never flown spirit but i'm picturing the passengers being about the same types of people you will see shopping in walmart and paying with ebt cards.

Meh…domestically it's just a bus in the sky. Give me and exit row aisle on a major airline's mainline service and I'm good.

Flying can still be a lot of fun internationally in business or first. :)

Flew to Boston yesterday. Heading to Tampa this afternoon. Was pissed that only seat was in the middle (JetBlue), but checked in online and grabbed one of the even more space window seats. 3 hours in the middle seat... Ughh that's for the plebes.

Trip from Tampa is on Southwest, so every man for himself. How can someone traveling three days not fit stuff in a carry on?

I fly Southwest mostly (unless it's for business).

I generally fly with only carry-on's because waiting for my suitcase (and checking it before hand) are both a pain in the ass. Why do that when you can avoid it? If anything, they should be charging for bringing bags on board rather than checking - which like I said, is a disadvantage in my mind. No chance of losing it. No cost. No waiting. WHY the hell would you check your bag unless it's international?

The problem is that they recently made the "carry-on size" even smaller, once again.... Forcing everyone to buy new suitcases. Which is a load of shit that they are able to change shit like that.

not a chance in hell i could ever fit stuff in just a carry-on when traveling. hell my fins alone won't even fit in a carry-on they are too long, and my wifes hardly fit in the carry-on we bring when traveling.

Seriously? You EACH get TWO carry-ons. One full travel suitcase (each), plus a decently fat sized duffel bag (each) to fit underneath your seat and you can't fit in those 4 bags? There's something wrong with you.

But I have no idea wtf you're referring to when you say "fins".

Eh. I find SW no better and no worse than other big carriers. This weekend, I have an AA flight to O'Hare - it was far cheaper than comparable SWA's flights.

diving fins.

not sure what you mean about "one full travel suitcase" each. that's what i check in with the airlines. on the plane i bring a wheeled carry on and a bookbag with my laptop and camera gear in it.

i also don't wear little girl clothes or have little girl shoes so my stuff takes up space.

i also think that many people who think checking in bags takes up all this extra time simply hasn't done it in years. last time i flew i was literally in line for about 2 minutes before i was helped and checked in and they took my bags, then about an extra 15 minutes once we landed to get the bags.

actually when i landed in aruba customs is what took a long time. my bags were long waiting for me once we got through customs. it would have saved exactly 0 seconds had i only had carry on when arriving there.

Ya, having to travel with dive gear which takes up a large suitcase by itself. Fins, BCD, wetsuit, boots, etc take up a ton of space.

On top of that clothes for a week, and electronic equipment. Basically half of a suitcase is electronic gear.

Also, you need to check toiletries and such because you basically aren't allowed to bring them on the plane and they can be difficult to find in foreign countries.

I do not sit in the middle. Ever. I'll take a different flight or a even a different airline before taking a 3-5 hour ride in a middle seat. My husband who used to love the window gambled on a Southwest flight that I would cave and sit next to him in the middle…he lost. Now he sits across the aisle from me whenever we travel. I have few iron clad unbreakable travel rules but this is #1.

Last year I did two weeks in Europe out of a international size carry on and my laptop messenger bag. Chronic overpacking is universal among infrequent/leisure travelers…I mean some of these people look like they're fleeing the country with their two checked bags/carry on roller/additional personal item (invariably a huge bag that barely fits under the seat).

I like flying with my cpap. It doesn't count against you as a carry on, and I can stuff lots of things into the various pockets, pouches, etc in the cpap bag. Then I take another carry on and basically get two for the price of 1.

SW is THE big carrier now. Last figures I can recall put them at the largest domestic market share just ahead of Delta. Their favorable independent folksy image still is holding up despite tangible declines in service against the majors.

AA is routinely cheaper on the routes that I most often fly, which some people have a hard time believing. I fly SW when it's advantageous due to routing but that's about it anymore.
