Check your Costco Amex card statement

Starting Jan 1, 2009, Amex is changing the term of the 3% restaurant, 2% travel rebate. Unless the merchant use some approved Amex code on their machine, you're only going to get 1% general rebate. I already have sneaky feeling I'm not getting all the proper credit on my food purchases as it is right now. This will probably make it worse.
 
I think a lot of restaurants don't properly report as such already. As far as I can tell, very few businesses are listed as anything remotely related to their actual category.
 
How is that different from how Costco currently identifies category purchases, or how any other credit card identifies category purchases?
