I do everything online so I don't rely on paper statements so much. I pay more than my minimums so I never really worry about over limit/etc. My due dates are recorded in a spreadsheet I use.

However; recently two accounts have had their due dates moved to about a week earlier than I have recorded.

I just caught one today I was going to pay for the 25th and it was due TODAY. $15 charge...they didn't want to take responsibility for the first iteration of this.

Just an FYI, I heard others mention this too on credit forums when I looked into it.

if you don't have a history of being late, usually you can call them and have them removed.

CC sends bill to your bank account on billing day, wire transfer.

I guess if you can't pay it off in full everymonth you probably shouldn't but I never spend more on my CC than what I have in the bank so it's never an issue

Because he carries a balance doesn't pay off each month.

BofA lost a $19 million dollar class-action lawsuit about five years ago for pulling this crap on its consumers.

They did not want to negotiate. I already paid off another account with them two weeks ago for them raising the rate due to their error.

I will be closing this account more than likely if the rate I was promised at that other pay off time doesn't show.

Thanks for the reminder... I just paid off a huge bill thanks to a new pair of glasses (never buying plastic, non-malleable frames again). Hope they didn't screw with my 'grace' period.

This is why you ALWAYS read your statements that are mailed to you. They can and frequently do change your due dates.

I don't read the statement, I login to my CC accounts and check the due date under the amount due box.

I mistakenly paid late on a credit card once or twice, and was successful in getting whatever late fees dropped. One time I believe I paid a credit card like 3 times in one month, but was still charged a late fee. I managed to get two payments in before the new statement came out and then I made a payment right after the due date. I should have caught what I did, but I overlooked it.

But they should notify you someway that the due date has changed.

also, if you pay your CC bills online, make sure your scheduled payments process. this happened to me once. my scheduled payment disappeared. i called them up with the confirmation number i had and they didn't have any record of it. they ended up removing all fees from the account and let me pay it then.

A shady tactic some CC use is requiring longer than usual processing time for online payments. Some say they require 3-4 days to process the payment. So if you pay within those last few days it's going to be late and they'll hit you with a late fee. Conveniently many of these CC that do this also have a rush payment option but with a pretty heavy fee.

In this day and age they should be able to post your payment same day (if you paid early enough in the day) or at the latest the next business day. I remember reading an article that Congress is going to start looking into these shady tactics being used by the CC companies.

I'll have to make sure the wife didn't use any of our older shitty cards that have not had a purpose in 4 years. We use 1 card 99.9% of the time and I watch it like a hawk.

Sounds about as annoying as how Amex changed their online payment system so that you had to select a bank account before being able to select an amount (greyed out) but there was no way of knowing that without testing it...and furthermore CS had no clue about the change.

Speaking of BofA, I'm having a problem with them right now. They're the only lender where I can't make a payment on a weekend. So they give me a due date on Sunday, and if I pay Friday night (after "business hours"), it won't go through until Monday. And even though I scheduled the payment, I still get charged the late fee.

Happened 3 times in a row until I said screw it, I set up auto payment so its paid off the day the bill comes out. :|

I wouldn't do that. What if the CC takes out too much due to some kind of billing error or fraud? I always initiate an electronic payment from my end--No auto drafts.

Thanks for the heads up.

Here's another: (although not a CC) We were called and pestered about an over-due balance. If we agreed to set up an electronic billing of the balance, they would waive the late fee. We set the date for the last day before the next bill first became due, and told them to pull out the (October?) payment at the same time. Got a letter from them confirming everything. Checked our bank statement online; they pulled it out & pulled out the correct amount. i.e $25 that was "late" and "$300" for the next payment. However, since the next payment wasn't quite due yet, they only credited $270 of the $300 (just approximate numbers) toward the October payment. And, the other $30 (actually, it was a really weird amount), they decided to credit toward the principal. A week later, they were calling, wondering when they would get their other $30, with threats of late fees, online bill-paying fees for processing it, etc. Took forever to talk to someone from India who both had common sense & could understand English.

it's on the paper bill...however, many CC websites don't give you the full info the paper statement does, especially on rate and terms.

The CC with this company had a late pay due to their own error...they fixed it as far as the late charge, but they did not correct the rate (went 8.9% to 26.99%)...I didn't realize this until about 6 months went by when I was reviewing my accounts for balance transfers.

I closed this account due to them not wanting to correct this issue. The quote was 'whether it was their fault or not, my payment was still late and in your agreement you have agreed to have this count as a default'.

I am trying to get the last $3k out of this company to another card, but no one is offering any deals.
