check this out these 2 motherboards are exactly the same but different companies

Shuttle also markets under the name of "EDM Technologies", a name that they seem to have only used for dumping old designs.

Shuttle also used to have the same designs as "Spacewalker", but it sounds like they are separate entities.

Hehe Why not use someone else's designs? If you can use another design and add your own drivers and tweak the hardware a bit before you release it onto the consumer market bettering the original product and "not" infringe on copyrights or patents, then your R&D goes down alot and you pull a fast one on the unsuspecting company. It's their own fault for not protecting their own ass. I'm not saying it's right, but it's being done all the time and not just by this company.

Don't you just hate it when you buy something from one company cause it has a name attached to it and then find out later that the same thing is being relabled as another product and then sold cheaper? I would really detest that but I've seen that in products such as power supplies.

I'm sure that they're not exactly the same either. There are reference designs that alot of manufacturers stick close to cause it's proven to work. Why change it if it works? Or maybe they just put the wrong pics here or the product description was wrong. It wouldn't be the first time that's happened.

nah they look exactly the same. even the port layout is the same. the ECS was $16 less though so i bought that one. the only difference seems to be that they are different colors. the layouts are exact.

i guess they just use the same script file or whtaever for the pcb machines. I know thats how people used to make counterfiet asus boards and fake adapter scsi cards.

Shuttle and Spacewalker are the same company. If you go to spacewalker.com it takes you to Shuttle's website. Shuttle's MB boxes also have Spacewalker printed on them as well, might just be the name of the MB line.

Just because the board layout is identical, doesn't mean the parts used are identical. The quality of the parts is just as important, if not more so, than the layout.

On the ECS board, what are the extra pins for between the front-panel headers and the fan connector? They look like they're missing on the Shuttle board.

i thought the chipset supplier also send reference designs to motherboard manufacture for them to evaluate and change/improved if required. If the design and layout has already been done and the product suits the intended market why redesign it? 🙂
