I actually might consider a combo drive; I never burn on the fly from another CD drive, and I never really have the use for 2 cd drives, so that might work out nicely. Good call, Mist.

I got the Gigabyte P4 Titan Series MOBO GA-8IK1100 for 148$ and I think it is completly worth the cash. Easy to overclock, just tried it (my first time) and it worked like a charm; got my 2.4 GHz to 2.9 GHz with absolutley no problems. Also 6 DDR slots for ram, all of them are able to be duel chanelled (3 pairs of duel channel slots). 8 USB2 ports (4 back pannel, 2 on case, and 2 covering a pci slot), 2 firewire ports (covers a back panel PCI slot and one on case), and it is 875 chipset. Moreover this was my first computer that i built and the manual was easy to figure out.

Hopefully after reading this you at least check out this MOBO, but don't buy it on just my account.

Any opinions on the Thermaltake Volcano 7+? If I run it at medium fan speed, probably won't be too loud. I really don't want to spend more than $25 for a HSF, so that seems to be in the right price range, and people have said they've used it to overclock a 2.6 up to 3.25. Any better alternatives?

You seem to be having problems finding RAM at a decent price heh. $280 is a bit spendy for the Kingston. Newegg has the following brands/prices in 2x512MB PC3200 CAS2 setups...Kingston HyperX/$249...GeIL Golden Dragon/$199...Corsair XMS/$260...OCZ EL/$289...There's some Buffalo PC3700 CAS3 for $200 also. I've heard great things and bad things about all 5 brands so I'm no help there, but that should help you find a better price for what you want...

Actually, I can get 1GB (4x256MB) of HyperX PC3500 at Best Buy for $196 after rebates, so I think I'm going with that. I might look into that Buffalo RAM ... if it overclocks well, I might go with that, strictly because it's PC3700 and the HyperX is only PC3500.

I have the Volcano 7+ The speed controller sits inside the case the wires are too short to put it anywhere else. Doesn't matter for me since I leave it at medium. The sound sounds like a hair dryer on high, and doesn't cool on low. Medium is pretty good. You can see my temps over an hour long period (they get updated every 5 min when I'm actually running MBM5) here. Those temps are with folding at home running constantly.

Apparently the Kingston HyperX PC3500 deal at BestBuy is done...

If I went with that PC3200 HyperX from NewEgg ... I wouldn't be able to overclock as far, right? I mean, that memory wouldn't overclock as far as the PC3500, so it's almost worth it to take the hit and find the 3500 elsewhere. Or am I talking out my ass?

Okay, my budget has expanded a slight bit, so I've updated the config once again. I am still looking for cheap Kingston PC3500, so if anyone knows of any deals, please let me know. I'd like to stay at PC3500 due to overclocking, otherwise I'd take PC3200 in a heartbeat.
