i think that what they mean with that line is, that is the distance to experience FULL effects, as in you can see every single pixel... (nobody wants to sit that close to watch a movie...but maybe to read wall of text on a monitor it might make sense)

the way i'm reading it is that, with a 50 inch 4kTV, you would experience the full effects starting at 5 feet, any closer or any farther away would not be optimal.

however if you have a 110 inch 4ktv, you would need to be at least 6 feet away, but optimal viewing distance extends to around 12.5 feet (so between 6 and 12.5 feet from a 110 inch 4ktv)

According to the chart, you'd need to either buy an 85"+ TV to begin to notice 4k over 1080p at 10ft, or with a 63" 4k TV move to within ~7ft to begin to notice 4k advantages.

That's the way I've always interpreted it. I assume this chart was made for 20/20 vision also.

This is a big reason why I prefer my 58" 1080p plasma from ~7.5ft over my 30" 1600p monitor from ~2ft. Monitor looks like crap from this distance in games. Could definitely use 4k, but the hardware/price demands to run it are stupid. That and LCD is ass no matter what new tech you try to throw at it.

For a 145" screen, yes you need to sit at 8ft to fully benefit a 4K resolution.

If you had say, a 60" screen, you only need to be at about 3 ft to fully benefit from a 4K resolution TV.

Don't know what you're reading, but if you're sitting 10' from a 63", then upgrading to 4K will help not a bit. And that chart tells you that.

What it DOES tell you is, at 10' you can increase your TV size to 90" or more.

Oh, and welcome to about 7-8 years ago. That chart has been around forever.

that chart is full of crap. At my inlaws over the Thanksgiving, i was sitting about 15 feet from a 42 inch tv. According to that chart, all the resolutions should look the same. Except i saw a VERY large differenc between watching the football games on the SD channel vs the HD channel. Even my MiL commented on how much clearer it was and was asking how to get to the HD channels(they did not even know how they had them)

Yeah, I've sort of wondered about that chart as well. I have a 52" TV and we sit about 15 feet away from it. According to the chart I shouldn't really even be seeing a benefit of 720p, but HD programming looks way better than regular digital broadcasts.

Try comparing with 480p vs 720p video files instead of heavily compressed cable and see if it changes.

What the chart doesn't take into account is your eyesight.

And to echo jlee...most cable/satellite/streaming content looks like crap. OTA is noticeably better (obviously so is blu-ray)

Except that would only make it more noticeable. Plus, the HD football game i was watching looked very good. I did not see any compression artifacts. What it comes down to plain and simple is that the chart is wrong. Myself and several other have noted that there is a VERY LARGE difference between SD and HD content at 15 feet on a 42in TV. With that chart i should not even be able to see 720p much less 1080 and yet i clearly could.
