This reminds me of when I ran over a snaked 2 days ago. I didn't see it until the last seconds and then looked in my mirror and it was all curling up. I ran right over its spine. I was on my way to play street hockey and yah, I got cursed. I ended up being tripped and scraped my shoulder up. Bad omen :D But the snaked wasn't on the street when we went back home. I think it survived long enough to writhe off the road.

The only time I promote killing snakes is if they're poisonous and in a place they shouldn't be, or a random snake that somehow gets in your house. (Long story that happened to me two weeks ago. :p Killed the thing before I realized what kind it was, but there are copperheads in East TN and I wasn't going to take the time to determine what it was.)

That's alot of rules to follow on whether killing a snake makes you a pansy or not. Guess you had to word it so he would be one while you are not.

Hah, you're right... considering that I discovered the snake in my house by opening the door from the garage to the house and, stepped into the house, and my foot landed on top of a snake... before I even had a chance to turn the lights on.

I'm sure the thing just wanted to go outside, but like I said, when you live in an area where a fair share of Copperheads have been seen then you don't turn on the lights and begin an examination before grabbing the shovel. :p

bah.. I would do it all over again..

And plan too... there is another one up there in the tree.. it comes down and it will suffer the same fate..

FLAME ON

Its a black racer. They can't really cause a person a lot of harm, but they can be quite aggressive. A bite from one can cause tetanus. And they are very good at killing pests like mice and rats

Reason enough right there.

Wow, killing a snake just because it is there. That is one of the most ignorant things I have ever seen. I only expect behavior like that from trailer trash rednecks that like waving their gun around.

Yeah sure rat poison lying around is much safer for children than a non venomous snake.

True, but I don't have to worry about that because when I step on snakes... My first instinct is to haul arse and curse profusely. :p

I understand your position, but don't come bitching about your house being infested with mice or other rodents. You'll wish you had a snake then.

Hah, believe me I was cursing profusely, but I really didn't have any other option. It was in the house and it was dark in there. :p

I will say that for a couple of days afterwards it was kind of weird when entering the house from the garage.

Don't worry about it man, if you had let the snake go and just took pics everyone would be b1tching and whining how you could let that thing roam around your yard. People round here just like to pick fights and make fun of others.

You look like you live in something of a wooded/country area, so did you not anticipate having such animals around your home?

I give you the Mandingo Man award for today.

I haven't read the rest of the posts except for the original.

You are a complete ASS for killing something because of your lack of knowledge. That snake is a non-poisonous snake and posed NO threat to you or your family.

Oh and BTW....I have a daughter the same age as yours and she has already been taught not to fear snakes and that not all snakes are dangerous.

I would like the Posters that went after the guy who took the time to post pics say something about having a 5 foot Eastern DiamondBack Snake in the yard like I have 2 of them right now.

When we (as in myself, my sister and her boyfriend and my wife) came across one of them last week I didn't get a shovel fast enough to get it. It slipped under some tree logs before I could get to it.

Saw a different one last week on the other side of yard and it too got away before I could get it.

It is only the biggest and deadliest snake East of the Mississipi.

Totally different situation. The guy new nothing about the snake and just killed it whereas you obviously know the dangers of having a Diamondback in your yard. Additionally, snakes generally do not attack unless they are cornered so avoiding them is a a safe bet.

I have encountered numerous deadly snakes (Rattlesnakes, Diamondbacks, Cottonmouths, and Copperheads) and have yet to be bitten.
