Just like all those offices that tried to go paperless but still use paper

Well that's because of 1) fear of doom & gloom or 2) technical incompetence

But wireless networking at the server-level - is it just technically infeasible? Security?

When they can do affordably priced 10+ gigabit wireless network connections for servers, let me know :)

Actually, the new "hyper-converged" servers have a lot less cabling. The connections to the built in storage and networking are mostly done through the backplane of the server enclosure.

Lol wireless for servers would be a stupid idea. Security issues, and throughput are the two main reasons. Imagine if each one of those cables was a wireless signal. The interference would be insane. There's only so much bandwidth to play with, assuming you stick to legal spectrums.

Technically infeasible. We've got 40Gb interconnects on our servers. Good luck getting that on wireless.

That kind of stuff is fairly normal in the broadcast world. The ones in the facility I work in aren't quite that pretty, but I've seen that kind of work in other stations. Somewhere I have pictures but I'm not finding them right now. The edges of the cable bundles were straight (hexagonal bundles). Seriously impressive.

As mentioned in the Reddit link those systems are the heart of video routing and distribution for a broadcast facility. They will be in place a VERY long time.
