if A : an ace flops

B : unders flop.

Probably check-fold if the Ace hits, and all in otherwise. In a one called hand game (like the OP) I might call an Ace on the flop as well; two or more hands and it would definitely be check-fold.

of course he didn't play it wrong. He played it the most correct way he could have. The only way he would have been wrong is maybe if nobody raised and everybody limped in and sombody gets the higher straight.

actually its not regardless of what he did or didn't do, the hand would have been split.

there is the chance that the villain folded to the all in preflop.

First of all you need to be more clear in your line. are you check calling if an ace falls or are you check folding if an ace flops? if an ace doesn't flop, are you check raising all in on the flop or are you open pushing on the flop?

At this point of the tourney, people are raising preflop with AQ, AJ, AT, maybe even A9. If you just smoothcall preflop, you are giving them a chance to see the flop for free.

Secondly, if the Ace flops, your opponent does not need an ace to win the hand. if he has lower PP than you, QQ, JJ,TT, he still has high likelyhood of betting after you check. And now you have to fold.

Third, majority of the time (5/6) , the ace doesn't fall, now you are less likely to get him to call your all in on the flop. If he has Ax, he is probably not calling your push on an all under flop. If he has QQ, JJ, TT, he will probably call the flop push but he would have called preflop anyways and why give him the chance to flop a set?

Finally answer this question. If OP only had 500 dollars lets say. and middle position raises to 250 like the situation said, would you still advocate smoothcalling instead of preflop push?

you must realize that at some point your stack is small enough to where you have to preflop push right? I think in this situation, your stack is small enough to make preflop push the right move.
