Check out this monstrosity

Getting a little desparate are those guys at Tt?

I like a tender 32 oz. steak occasionally,
even a Big Gulp once in a while,
I really like the Big John toilet seat, see here

But WTF is that sink all about?

That thing is fvcking huge!!!!!! I think I'd be a little worried about the weight of that cooler on the socket and mobo.

Not to mention your $400 video card below (and also the occupants in the apartments 2 or 3 floors below yours)

Not really *that* heavy.. 654Grams is less than copper Zalman CPNS which is 1Kg.

When did they decide putting apartment complexes on processors was the best way to silently cool them? Apartment complexes are NOT silent....just another terribly loud Tt product...

And that weight is like a long lever. That has got to put a lot of torque on the MB. Monstrosity is the right word

Size was my first worry, then weight, but worst is torque, as long as that thing is Id have to set my case sideways due to the torque it would apply to the mobo (without some serious case mobo backplate mods)

a 1kg hs 1/4 its height would cause less twisting on the mobo.

Quite correct. I could even see mobo mfgs voiding warranties if one of those is installed, because it would seem to me to increase the chance of the mobo/socket being damaged pretty easily, especially if the PC is moved/transported (say, LAN-party usage). Even if you carefully remove your heatsink before travel, all of that added removal/attachment will likely put wear on the mounting locations, and increase the risk of mobo damage from that too.

Is this really progress, or extremism in support of marketing?

Edit: I give them points for the attempt, though, and for a silent HTPC setup, in which the mobo rests flat on the bottom of the case, desktop-style, and this cooler can safely be attached, then it does make some sense, although I wonder if it would be too tall for some of those cases as well.

Personally, I think that someone should come up with a heatsink, similar to the Zalman 7000-series, but in the shape of a giant mushroom that fits on top of your CPU.

Don't give the product development team at TT any more ideas. :Q
