Secret Service agents shopping for Olympics souvenirs lost a document detailing security plans for Vice President Dick Cheney's appearance at the closing ceremony...

When Greenhalgh called to report the mistake, a Secret Service representative promised that an agent would pick up the log, the Tribune reported. After 45 minutes, no one had arrived, so he offered to take it to the agency's downtown office.

In exchange, Greenhalgh requested an autographed picture of Cheney, but was rebuffed and then decided to contact the newspaper...

wtf? not only did they jerk him around with the SS is gonna drop by to pick the sh!t up... they were a no show and didn't even give him a stinking autographed photo. that's not nice. :disgust:

EDIT: sorry if this is a repost.

The original reaction was probably that they get crank calls all the time and this was probably just another one of the same. Sucks they acted like jerks, but they probably have more important things to take care of.

By the time he called, the USSS had probably realised that the log had been lost and had moved on to a backup. Once the log is lost it's useless even if it's reported, there's no way of knowing for sure that it hasn't been compromised. IMO they guy was an idiot for going to the press with something like that. A good citizen would have destroyed the document rather than give it to the press.

yeah u guys have good points, but geez... he was just trying to do what he thought was the right thing and give the docs back to the SS. he just got the cold shoulder in return. 🙁
