Very cool looking teaser, it looks good so far. Saw it on the big screen in front of Matrix Revolutions.

Oh yeah I remember seeing that now, I recall thinking at the time "damn that's a lot of cg boats"

Feels like a Gladiator clone.

Not really, maybe the roman scenes from gladiator have a similar look but that is where all similarities end. It's a completely different story.

Premise: In 1193 B.C., Prince Paris (Bloom) of Troy stole the beautiful Greek woman, Helen (Kruger), away from her husband, Menelaus, the king of Sparta, setting the two nations at war with each other, as the Greeks began a bloody siege of Troy using their entire armada, led by Achilles (Pitt), that lasted over a decade... (Bana plays Hector, the leader of the Trojan forces; Byrne plays Briseis, a Trojan slave and cousin of Hector and Paris who is given to Achilles as a gift.)

Anyone else think that Wolfgang Peterson is a little overrated?

not really, it's not like Wolfy is getting critical acclaim or getting all this press (director himself) or cajillions of dollars or whatever...he's just an experienced director making a big budget movie. plus his name isn't getting mentioned that much on access hollywood or entertainment tonite etc etc etc.

at least wolf has done more movies than Gore Verbinski, who directed Pirates of the Caribbean.

I think it will be a good flick. Hopefully they dont mess it up. This movie looks like it has the potential to be fvcked up. Remember Pearl Harbor? Such potential, except they made it more of a love story. Bah.

Second both comments.

Well, if you are talking about the story, then Gladiator is more of the clone. The movie is based on Homer's Illiad, which is one of the oldest surviving stories in western culture, and far predates the Roman Empire.

Personally I love The Illiad and the Oddyssey. Awsome stories. I can't wait to see what they do with the Character of Odysseus.

"and the warrior he called upon to lead a war for vengeance."

King Menelaus called upon more than just achilles (obviously) He called upon all of Helen's suitors, who had sworn to Menelaus that they would defend his marriage after Helen chose him. I think this movie will be good, however I am extremley dissapointed that there is no mention of Odysseus, as he plays a huge role in the war.

A few too many boats in that scene, don't you think?

Looks pretty cool. I was disappointed by "Helen of Troy," which aired on USA recently. They advertised it so much, too.

Odysseus is played by Sean Bean according to IMDB. Looks like a good movie so far.
