That little box is your webserver? Why not set one up with a slow computer laying around? Also, how does it work? It looks cool/interesting, just seems like a waste of money though. If you got the $$$ though, congrats!! :D

this thing was rather inexpensive, and compared with a slow computer it draws at most 15 watts

Here you go. it's officially a modem router. it's easily hacked into a webserver or almost anything else. it has 2 megabytes of flash and 8 megabytes of sdram. pretty small footprint, but still useable.

So basically it only really has a cool factor?...Is it limited to just serving static HTML or do you have any type of scripting on it?

Also, jhu, you're still on dial-up? And with over 7000+ posts! Must be a long wait making all those posts.

well, i'm actually on dsl. i'm using that device as a webserver right now. and it does have scripting capabilities

Cool little server, I'll have to check that out. Might make a fun project.

what up boberfett!

yeah, i got this thing after reading the slashdot article on it. prior to this, i'd been looking for some cheap and low power device to host a small website on.

unfortunately, it's less than 8mb because the the linux kernel takes up about 1.5mb, plus it loads several processes at startup. on the other hand, a personal site doesn't really need to be that big.

It depends on what the website is for... if it's just a personal "hi, this is me" type of website, then yeah, it should be plenty. But put up a few fairly large pictures and/or some files that you need and it can quickly be used up.

In comparison, my website currently has over 500MB of space being used. It really just matters on what it's going to be used for.

you're definitely not going to be using this thing as a production server

I'm aware, I run a site at work that's a 30 GB database driven site and run another site in my spare time that's well over 1 GB now. But you can do an awful lot in 8 MB with some careful hand layout and CSS. Not every site has to be barfed on with animated GIFs and Flash.
