I was offered a good deal at work last week for this TV and took the plunge on a Samsung 52" LCD TV. Obviously, it's way too big for that stand. Fortunately, a wall mount for the TV and a wall mount A/V cabinet were thrown in. I just have to wait for the guy to take the bracket off his wall and bring it to me.

The stereo is just something I got back in HS. It's not the best but it does have an Toslink connection... I'll probably move my Z-5500s out to the living room since my gaming rig is hooked up to the TV anyways. I'm going to pick up a Bluray drive and probably a receiver of some kind after I graduate in a week or so.

It's a humble beginning but I'm happy with it for now and it will only get better. Can we turn this into a 'post your home theatre' thread? Yes, I think we can!

And my parts graveyard I've accumulated over the years. I should probably sell some of it...

Now that that's out of the way, I think Left for Dead Two in full 1080P is probably a good idea to cap of the night. Well, that and my whiskey nightcap.

L4D2 FTW... I love that game. All the new mutations, and the passing... So addicting.

Hey OP, I feel your excitement! I went from a 26inch Sony SDTV to a 60inch 1080p DLP and WOW...like, Im still speechless as to the awesomeness. Dont have my main rig hooked up to it but I do have a HTPC and Blu-ray is FUCKING AWESOME! I dont give a shit what people say...you CAN tell a difference from DVD and its incredible!

Anyways, Im happy for you OP! WELCOME TO THE BIG BOYS! :-D

I recently got my HTPC running. I decided to hide it behind my front left acoustic treatments (which also do wonders for isolating the bit of fan noise).

Every time I see that case I just go "Wow, that's a nice case". But then I realize I already have that case. I did take off the swinging door though. Completely more functional with my media reader bays.

Yeah, that door is a bit of a pain in the ass right now. The TV won't let the door open up all the way. It was a last minute thing and I'm not sure if I want to try and build a dedicated HTPC or just repurpose my main rig. We'll see after graduation.

you could simply put it on the other side of the TV so the door swings the other way

Yeah, I suppose I could do that. It's just a lot harder to access that side of the stand due to the server sitting there. It will also be a moot point once I wall mount the TV. I've got some work to do in the audio department as well. Right now, I'm trying to figure out how to output sound through my X-Fi's breakout box optical out. Even if that works, I'll still have that stupid Toslink cable hanging out the front. I think what I'll end up doing is pulling the X-Fi and putting the stock soundcard back in. After all, digital is digital so the X-Fi is essentially a really expensive pass-through right now.

I've also talked myself out of building a separate HTPC. My desktop is a pretty powerful machine (Quadcore @ 2.83 GHz/8 GB memory/4870 Dark Knight VC) and once I quite it down and throw a Bluray drive in there, it should make a great media center/game center.

I just started looking at 7.1 receivers. Much like my 'problem' with computers, I can see this TV being a lot more expensive than the original purchase!

Why LCD? Just curious...

Really, the only reason is because I wasn't planning on buying a TV right now (wanted to find a more permanent place to live, funds, etc...) but was offered a pretty good deal for this one from a friend and had to jump on it before he sold it to someone else.

I think it worked out pretty well. I'm kinda in love with it...

I decided to move my Z-5500s out to the media center because there really wasn't an easy way to connect them to my MBP and still have surround. I like the change, my desk and room are so much more open now!

Edit: Does it matter which way the port on the sub is facing in terms of bass quality?

No. Low frequency sound is far more omni-directional than sound at higher frequencies.

Exception: if the sub output is aimed at something, that something may affect the sound.

Good to know. I'm not exactly an audiophile or anything. When I first got the 5500s, a friend of mine who was going to school for sound engineering had some choice words for me in regards to my sub placement...

Yoyo, I reconditioned my old Q6600 PC into a HTPC for my bedroom and I just replaced the fans with quieter versions and it's very noticeable.

They're Scythe Kaze-Jyuni (an odd name... I guess Jyuni is representing the fan size in cm). Only spins at 800RPM but pushes 40.17CFM and a mere 10.70dBA! That combined with my Zalman dustbowl HSF makes it pretty darned quiet. Now if I could only find out why my blu-ray drive seems to be making weird clunking noises maybe ever hour...!

Btw, I like the setup a lot. I would do what I suggested earlier and just take the door off the case. It's behind the TV so it's essentially hidden.

Or you could cut it so only your DVD drive / 3.5" drive is exposed for media purposes. Come to think of it, that would be AWESOME.
