check my old HD for virus

Hi, my current harddrive is running low, now i want to plug my old Harddrive back in.

I don't remember if the drive is infected.(and it is now disconnected, detached, from my PC)

how can i use a online scan like microtrend to scan for virus on my old HD without infecting the one i am using?

I was thinking that i can put a write protect to the HD that i am using and then plug the old drive in and then go to the internet and scan that drive for viurses.

can i do that?

set old drive to either CS(cable select) or Slave ..then put on the ide chain behind the Master harddrive..go do your virusscan

actually i know how to install the drive.

what happen if i turn on my PC after installed. will the virus spread all over my PC once i turn it on?

Uh...why don't you install the drive, boot to disc, and format it I guess if you're REALLY paranoid you could disconnect the primary drive while you're doing it.

my moboard doesn't support cd boot...
sigh, long story

Unplug new drive. Plug in old drive. Grab a bootdisk.com and format it.
