I'm helping myself to a QX6700 and the up and coming Abit AB9 Quad GT in the next couple of days and am questioning the need for a new PSU to suit. I'm using a Seasonic Energy Plus 550 HT. After reading through the excellent JohnnyGuru power supply thread I calculated 38 amps on the combined +12 rails, the 550 HT is rated at 41 combined amps on the +12. It seems without adding anything more to my system that this unit should suffice. Some specs to check my findings: QX6700 - No O.C. (yet, I'll upgrade the PSU before I do), a single MSI 7800 GTX (no O.C. there either), (1) 10,000 rpm raptor, (1) 7200 rpm HD, (5) cooling fans, (2) optical drives, (4) GB DDR2 PC 6400 RAM (spd settings). I think that's about all. So, can someone corroborate my 38 amps and/or advise on go/no go for this PSU?
The main considerations weighed in at 275 Watts for the CPU under load and about 70 Watts for the GPU, these are educated guesses only.
