I get a call 45 minutes ago from my insurance agent. He tells me the original check finally arrived, delivered by a postal agent (I suppose, his postman?). This is some 8 months after I dropped the envelope in the nearest mail box, which is right adjacent to my branch library. He says "it looks like a bite was taken out of it." His guess is that the envelope got improperly processed by some piece of equipment at a postal facility and somehow it was never discovered until just now. He wanted to know if I want him to send it to me or just shred it. I replied "shred it," but changed my mind and he's sending it to me. I just called him back, curious to know if the check was still in the envelope or not. He hasn't returned my call. I wonder if I should call my bank. They placed a hold on the check (for free), IIRC to last a year.
