My check engine light came on again, I know what the problem is and I wont the light to stop coming on. Is there a way I can get it to go off with having to go to the garage and pay $30 for them to hook it up to the computer? I already know what the problem is I don't need to know again.

Thanks

Craked exhaust cataliser converter. Cost $1200 canadian to fix and i'm a student and don't even have an 8th of that so getting it fixed is out of the question.

If you can ignore the problem, you can ignore a stupid little light on your dash. If it really bothers you, cover it in tape.

if your cat is breaking up fix it or you risk damaging your engine. if the cat breaks into pieces, it can get sucked back up into the engine, which would score your cylinder walls. then oil would blow by slowly..causing you to lose oil eventually running out of oil..which would cause you to throw a connecting rod out the side of your engine block!! (happened to my friend and a whole bunch of people)

Anyways, ask on a honda car forum, there is usually a method to clear the light. With my Nissan, it's a case of hitting the gas pedal w/ the car off in a certain combination. You can also hook up an OBDII reader to it and clear the code that way.

Yeah, if you're stupid and never check your oil. 😛

But I agree, get it fixed ASAP. Get a second opinion. And a 3rd.. 1200$ seems a little excessive......

are you sure its that? it might just me ur gas cap, if its not tightly on there the check engine light will come on. just turn till you here it click a few times, after a few miles the light will turn off (if thats the case). it doesn't hurt to check.

Last time we had a check engine light come on we went to the dealership they plugged in this PDA Diagonistic tool into the plug under the dash and told us the problem and they asked us if we wanted to clear it so the light would go off until the problem could be fixed. We had them clear the problem on the ECU until we could have it fixed, it wasn't a big deal just a O2 sensor going bad and it needed to be replaced but we didn't have the time to take it in to the dealership.

How is it going to get sucked into the engine? 😕 The cat's at least a foot below the exhaust outlets and your timing would have to be off something nasty to make any kind of sucking when the exhaust valves are open, at which point your car wouldn't be running...
