Check disk taking hours?

How long does it normally take to check a 250gb hard drive using the checkdisk that comes with windows xp, my have been at it for hours...

about 200g/250g is with data... lot of download karaoke MPG, MP3,

I am using my laptop right now.
 
My drive didn't take more than an hour until a few minutes before it died and I lost everything. I would back up your important stuff as soon as you can.

just leave it to finish. If you unplug the comp while it is running you might kill the drive. Wait and see how things turn out before you start worrying so much you can't post anymore.
