when trying to defrag my storage partition, defrag process was aborted due to inconsistencies that were detected in the filesystem. please run chkdsk or scandisk on partition to repair these inconsistencies, then run disk defragmenter again. What does this mean? what is chkdsk and scan disk?
 
They're utilities for checking your hard disk and the file structure on it. Under XP and 2003 and probably 2000, go to My Computer, right-click on the drive in question and select Properties. Then go to the Tools tab and select Check Now under the error checking section.
