Why is it that if it only improves the performance in the benchmark, it's a cheat? Why can't it do that? Suppose that the card performs above all in gameplay, but the benchmarks show the card as falling behind the competition. What then? That's not a good rule to go by.

I don't think it's possible to not reflect gameplay performance in a benchmark that tests the same section of gameplay. If you want an example of an optimization that improves only a benchmark, look no further than nVidia's 3DM03 clip planes.

I'm a little offended and more than a little exasperated by you telling me what's not a good rule to go by. Cheating is not a good rule to go by. And a card can't outperform all others and not prove that in benchmarks. A utility like FRAPS just records the framerate. If a card is really the fastest at a game, how can recording the framerate not prove that?

They can put in all the "tweaks" they want - just so long as the end-user has the option to disable that sh!t.
Agreed. I think even nV included the option to disable brilinear in their latest drivers.

This thread has absolutely NO RELEVANCE TO ANY REAL-WORLD COMPUTING TASKS. I just play the games, I dont give a flying fvck who "cheats" with their drivers, as long as they're compatable, and they run my games, i'm content. And like nick said, they both cheated, nobody really cares, end of story!
I'm sure that ignorant attitude will serve you well in buying another overpriced card like your 5700U. :p Seriously, how can you argue that it doesn't matter if someone cheats in a benchmark? The majority of this forum's posts are nothing more than "What's the fastest card for $X?" How could we honestly and usefully answer that without honest benchmark results to compare cards with?

what about editing in-game screenshots?
It's a pretty huge allegation, but I haven't seen proof of it yet.

I like MS Rise of Nations, it shows the frame as you play, a fair way to see the performance as used I feel.

Must be a way to do the same for openGL

It's called FRAPS. Hell, nV even included a benchmarking function in their latest drivers.

BTW, your mothers a whore.
Nick, where the f#$% is your super-ego? On vacation? Please exercise SOME restraint.
