I have been using the same set of 50lb sand bags i bought at the local home improvement store for the past 3 years. I nailed a few 2x4s together which i place over the wheel wells in the back of my f150. Then i line the sand bags up along the rear axle between the set of 2x4s.

400lbs positioned directly over the axle makes a noticeable difference in the winter. I have heard people advise against placing the weight in the back of the vehicle because it makes the back end more apt to swing.

You might want to think twice about putting any unsecured weight in your vehicle. A few years ago a coworker of mine used cement blocks, was in an accident and one of the blocks flew through the back glass clocking him in the head. It knocked him out and left a nice gash in his head.

Agreed. This is even worse in a wagon or hatch.

I want to permanently weigh down the rear end of our 2013 GMC for better traction. I see where everyone want to throw something in the bed and thinks that's ok, well what happens if you do wreck and get slammed in the back of the head with cinder blocks, bags of sand, or concrete? what if it fly's out and hits someone else? someone please give me a solution that's safe and professional

how about something that's permanent and wont come through the back windshield knocking ya in the head if you do wreck!!!!!

Why do you want to permanently install something?

The solution that is safe and professional is to get good tires. You shouldn't need to permanently add weight to your truck to get around unless you have a RWD truck when you should really have a 4WD truck.

Strap it down with quality straps. Or a JCH13 says - just get appropriate tires on an appropriate vehicle.

Wow, props for searching! I was reading through the thread and then saw my own replies from four years ago...

If you want to permanently add weight to the back of a truck, buy the SUV version. 😛
