I don't know if this is in the wrong place or not but... my computer is making these noises and having lots of problems mostly with games.. So I decided to upgrade to AMD instead of my crappy Intel Celeron 2.20... What 754 AMD CPU is better then the 2.20 by a lot in gaming that is 100$ or below... I need to also buy a new motherboard if anyone can prefer one that needs to be below 90$ I have a 190$ spending limit and I want to go as low as possible the motherboard brand I prefer is ASus but w/e... I would also like sites.

So what I'm asking is does anyone know where I can find Cheap AMD stuff that can be upgraded in the future im looking for socket 754 and Asus brand motherboard and I want to go as cheap as possible but still be better then a Celeron 2.20 I mean ALOT better.
 
Personally I would go with the 3000+ but I don't think it will meet your budget requirements. IIRC, 754 is being phased out by the 9xx socket so you may want to consider that instead of the 754 for upgrade reasons in the future but then again it all costs more money. Anything will be a lot better than that celery.
 
For 190$ you might want to try to find a Pentium 4 processor and reuse the mainboard. This kind of upgrade will be much more efficient than the move to an Athlon 64 processor and mainboard

Sounds like a good idea, if you're on a budget. Buy an Intel Northwood 3.0c GHz off AT FS/FT or eBay - you could find one for $150.
 
As above, but, if you only upgrade every few years [like me], it doesn't matter that the 754 'is being phased out' (won't be for some time anyway)
Whenever i upgrade, i find that most of my hw needs upgrading anyway.
IE
faster RAM
faster new upto date mobo
faster HDD
faster CPU
the AGP card - will prob also be update every 2 computers [me no gamer!]

There is no way that you will want to use the same hw you are gonna get now in 2 or 3 years!!

Just think - 2 years ago - PC2100DDR - no one uses that now in a new system
etc etc

If you live near a Fry's, they have weekly specials on AMD64 combos for less than 200 bucks... It comes with an ECS board, but for the price, this combo is well worth it... Consider the motherboard free!!!
 
I bought some time ago an ECS mainboard, and I can confirm that it gets the job done (it is a K7S5A with SIS 735 chipset). It works fast enough, and is stable. On the bad side, no overclocking 🙁

You can overclock with Honey Bios... Although a fsb of 150 or over would make things screwy... Had my Amd 1700+ at 143 fsb for the longest time -=D
