I've looked online at some prepay comparison charts but don't care for any of them, for whatever reason.

I am looking for a prepaid service that has a qwerty phone (most have this, though). Basically talk time doesn't matter at all, but 1000 texts are necessary.

NET 10 seems to be best for this with their $25/month (750 minutes = 1500 texts). Don't need a web capable phone or anything, either!

Thanks if I'm missing any obvious provider at top of list.

It's $30, but you're on Verizon's network. You get 1200 talk and text and you can use their phones or any Verizon branded phone.

This, but there are a few limitations on the phones you can bring (can't bring verizon prepaid phones or new phones like the thunderbolt, charge, iphone, etc.).

Otherwise, t-mobile does a $30/mo plan with 1500 in any combination of minutes or texts (ie 500 min and 1000 text, etc).

ATT gophone offers 250 minutes and unlimited texts for $25/mo.

Also buy refills at callingmart.com check their facebook for coupons. They usually have 10% off and no tax.

Cheapest would be Telna Mobile. Service is geared for international travelers, but you can use it in America as well. What you do pay an annual fee of $20 which gets you unlimited texts in and up to 1000 texts going out each month. They use native T-Mobile towers. You could use any unlocked gsm phone. Service is actually postpaid because they will bill you after you accumulate a balance of over $5. There is probably taxes when they bill you as is typical of postpaid services.

For actual prepaid, there is At&t Gophone's minute plan. Minimum cost is $25 every 90 days on this plan. What you would do in your situation is purchase the $9.99 monthly text package with 1000 texts. The amount would come from your existing balance. Thus if you never make any calls, you would just pay the $9.99 a month. You could use an At&t phone or an unlocked gsm phone.

Platinumtel's paygo rate is 2 cents a text. A thousand texts would be $20. They use Sprint towers, and you need to buy one of their phones.

Almost forgot to mention T-Mobile's $15 plan for unlimited texts and 10 cents a minute calling. T-Mobile's own phones would obviously work as well as an unlocked gsm phone.

Thanks for ideas--what the taxes on these?

The phone this is to replace is on Verizon and I have the cheapest Verizon plan possible, $35/month with 100 minutes and 500 texts (but hardly any are used since free in network). Probably is on top of the $35 are $7.50 in various fees and crap so it ends up at $42/month. I really need to save $10-15/month to make it worth moving...

I'll check that, it would be perfect. It must be hidden somewhere as I don't see it on their site, though.
