Cheapest option to pull data from a possible dying/bad hard drive?

My pc is acting up and I would like to pull the hard drive and use either an enclosure or some kind of ide to usb adapter

Copy your most important files 1st. The ones you absolutely cannot live without off that drive onto something else. Get it out and off onto a friend's external drive, thumb drive, spare SD card, copy it online, whatever.

Then you'll need to buy an external USB to SATA enclosure/adapter. There are different types. There's the enclosure ones then there's the open desktop standing adapters. The ones where you just plunk your vertically onto it. They should run you on sale for about $25.

However, I recommend buying USB to SATA enclosure drives instead. It'll often costs you less than buying the drive bare. It's usually because of the length of warranty. You can take the enclosure apart and swap drives. Others can chime in with good suggestions.

But copy your irreplacable data ASAP. You'll rest better and gives you more time to find what you need at better prices.

Thanks, I have my important stuff backed up via carbonite and have already restored to another pc but I am just wanting to browse the drive to see if I want anything on it before chunking it.
