Cheapest memory that does 2-2-2-5?

I need a ddr 400 ram that runs 2-2-2-5 so i can buy a better hard drive and not some pos ata 133. pc 3200 is probably gonna be the cheapest but as long as it runs 2-2-2-5 at ddr 400 im game

Geil Ultra? It's specced to 2-3-3-6, although I couldn't get it below 2-3-3-11 on my Shuttle NForce2 MB at 400Mhz. It's cheap, though, and will run CL2 at 400Mhz.

Frankly, 2-3-3-6 RAM is just fractionally slower, so if you're looking to save a few bucks, that's the stuff to try. Kingston makes some as well, and so does Crucial.

The Buffalo PC3200 is almost always good stuff. The PC3700 is spotty. BTW, what's wrong with some "pos ata133" hard drive? SATA's only real benefits now are smaller cables and no jumpers.

I've got 5 sticks of Buffalo RAM right now. 2 were bad out of the box. The other 3 (2x256, 1x512) won't do any lower than 2-3-3-x 🙂 However, I have HyperX that runs 2-2-2-x and the lower timings do not give any significant performance increase. Bragging rights for people's sigs, mostly, so I wouldn't get too hung up on it.

Kingston HyperX PC3200. It is available with both CH-5 and BH-5 chips. Get the ones rated for 2-2-2-6 and it will have BH-5 chips. Mine run up to 220 FSB 2-2-2-x with 2.8V, and up to 230 FSB at 2-2-2-x with 2.9V.

Just one question. Your nickname is amd4life, but you are running an Intel motherboard. Whats with that ? And on topic, I love the PC3500 Kingston Hyperx I got. It is rated at 216 mhz CAS2 (not sure the other ratings) It was $118 for 512 meg.

Buffalo is a crap shoot. I have Buffalo 3200 on a NF7-S that won't do any better than 2.5 3 3 at 200. Any faster setting at all will give memtest86 errors.

edit/ and yes, the chips are the winbond CH5

I still don't see the connection between needing RAM that does 2-2-2-5 and being able to get a better hard drive. But, maybe I'm just stupid. But why do you think an ATA133 drive is a POS?

I would vote for Mushkin 3500 Level 2 RAM as well, but it doesn't meet the "cheap" factor he's looking for.

Get some Buffalo or Kingston (Buffalo preferred).

I think he wants the cheapest 2-2-2-5 ram so he has $$$ left over for new HD. Thats my guess... of course, I could be trying to rationalize the irrational... 😀

What motherboard are you planning on using this memory in?

If it's an NF2 board, consider trying 2-2-2-11. Many have found that a t(ras) of 11 actually gives better performance and memory benchmark scores. My Corsair XMS 3500 C2 PT does this easily. 🙂

HyperX with Bh-5 chips has got to be the bang for buck einners. The PC3200 LL and the HyperX PC3500 are both Bh-5 chip. Bang for the buck winners, and warranteed to do the rated timings, unlike Buffalo.
