Cheapest domain names?

What is the cheapest way to register a domain name? I'm not talking about a specific company, but am asking if there are cheaper domain names other than the 'normal' .com, .net and .org addresses.

I've heard that it's $15 to register a .us address in the United States...? Does anyone know any more about this? Are there other countries with cheap domain name registration?

Thanks

For example, .ee (Estonia) TLD domains are free of charge 🙂

But seriously, many companies offer $5/year domain names, if you let them manage your domain and host it on their sites, also show their banner ads...

I want to host it on my computer... right now I have a cable modem and I'm running private webserver - basically a password protected site with family photos, etc. Anyway, I want to change the hard-to-remember IP address into something not too impossible to remember... like "pm.us" or something like that. Even if it is
pm.<city>.<state>.us, it's easier to remember than 12 random numbers.

Are Estonian domain names free? How can I register with them?

Alas,

<< The subdomain registration process is open only for organisations and individuals having permanent Internet connection in Estonia. The subdomain ends with .ee and the registration is free of charge. >>

Thanks for the tip though.

Any others?

I already had my ip and I registered the domain of my choice(that wasn't taken) at $35 per year. There are also some services that come with that. It allows me to manage my DNS entries for my domain on the web and is very easy to do. The DNS entry was out in 48 hours. Not too shabby for $35. So...look around for something cheaper, but I like having the good web interface and options to change my account online with little effort. Cheers!

.ee is the best solution for me as I live in Estonia 😉

but I've got a .net domain name from DomainInfo for $50/2years. No strings attached, you have to manage your own DNS etc.

Joker.com for about $11.50 ...
They let you manage your nameserver setting thru the browser as well, but no DNS service.

If you want DNS service, go with something like sentris.com for $14.99. they have DNS server and let you manage your domains online as well.

What about going with one of the dyndns services? They're free and you'll get something along the lines of pm.<dyndns service>.<com or net or org>. There are several out there...more info here.
