Cheapest cell phone plan?

I need a cheap cell phone plan. Even the 450 minute a month umlimited deal from Verizon bothers me at $40/month.

I am getting this as an emergency phone. Like my kid is sick at school and needs to get picked up or I am going to be late to get the kids from day care, etc. So, a 1 day a week use for 10 minutes maybe.

What dhouls I do for a plan and with what provider? I do not want texting! Specifically!

check out pagepluscellular.com. For $30/month no taxes or fees you can get 1200min/1200text/50mb data a month. Not bad really. I plan on doing it once my Sprint contract is up. They have more traditional pay as you go plans as well.

Nevermind MB beat me to it LOL

Below you can get 100mins for $20 and only had to be replenishe once very 120 days. Or 400mins for $25 if 100mins is not enough.

T-Mobile To Go.

10cents/minute

Fill up with 1000min ($100, you can usually get it online for about $92) to achieve Gold Status and the minutes are good for a year. Once you have Gold Status, just refill every 364days ($10 is enough) and your minutes are good forever.

Cripes...the race to the lowest price with more is getting hot. Lowest Tmobile plane in the NE area is 29.99 for 500 minutes (although some say you can get a 19.99 plan with 200 minutes if you ask over the phone). Your deal, however, is pretty hot.
Yeah I would probably be using Page Plus myself if I wasn't lucky enough to be on a VZW family share plan with unlimited data and text and more minutes than I'd ever need where my share is only $40/mo.

$20 for 200 minutes/unlimited texts with Corr Wireless. Of course they're a regional wireless company...

BTW: WRONG FORUM

My dad manages to pay $5/mo, but if he leaves the county he gets nailed by roaming charges.

...no, I didn't leave out an "r".

i use rogers in canada 100$ / yr @ 0.25c/min

auch... 400 min??? I go through that in like a month. Or are you actually saying it's 0.25 cent per minute?

That would make it 40,000 min.

to be fair, 350 of them is talking to my wife.

So this:

And a $30 phone? And $100/year if I limit myself to 1000 minutes of talking (which is no problem at all).

Use any (non-prepaid) verizon phone, $10 every 4 months for 100 minutes. So basically 300 minutes per year for $30.

If you need more, they have 1000 minutes for $50.

Uses Verizon's network, you can use just about whatever phone you want (CDMA, Verizon preferred, but if you like hacking you can use Sprint, Cricket, MetroPCS and Alltel phones too) except Blackberries.

It lasted me almost exactly a year with minimal texting and only the occasional phone call... so it is perfect for me. I have wifi for internet use. The phone is mainly for emergencies

This is what I do and recommend, but....

This is piquing my interest...

I recommend T-Mobile pre-paid because you can use any unlocked GSM phone, of which there are plenty since it's the worldwide standard. It'll also work fine overseas if you ever need to do that.

On page plus you *have* to use one of their limited, crappy phones.

Yup. And after the 1st year your annual cost can drop even more since you only need to add a $10 card to extend the minutes for another year.

I've had my T-Mobile plan for 4years now (my main one, I've gotten 2 more to keep in my cars since then), I've added $240 (2400mintues, and I still have 1200 left) and the minutes are good until Jan 2011 (when I'll probably add another $10 to extend it until Jan 2012).

I had Page Plus for a while, when they lowered the rates back in Jan (the rest of my family is on Verizon so I have a lot of phones). It was pretty good, and potentially cheaper, but I didn't like having to remember to add minutes every 4 months. I think it's good if you want a phone you carry around all the time but only use infrequently, whereas I wanted something that I only needed to check once or twice a year.

Ouch...Pageplus does not include roaming....that is a deal killer for me.
What are they going to roam on? They use Verizon's network... completely.

I should mention my wife has a Droid on the prepaid $29.95 1200 minute/1200 text/50mb data plan, and I just activated a Droid Eris on per-minute prepaid plan.
