Cheapest case for a cruncher???

OK, I looked on the cases forum. Cheapest case was from Comp Geeks at $22 + ~10 shipping.

Anyone here know of a cheaper way for me to put a case around bits for another crunching machine?
i'm thinking... surplus/recovered ATX cases from companies or something, maybe.... PS not needed. I'm in Detroit. Anyone know of a source for scrap computer components like that around here?

I think that ComputerGeeks has some for under $20 with a PSU... I got a bunch of them and they work just fine. Lightweight aluminum and sharp edges. PSU is not placed ideally... you pretty much need to remove it to get at the CPU.

Some folks can't keep their racks at home... I know that my boss would have significant second thoughts about my hobby if they weren't living in tidy cases...

LOL! Guess I need to read better... you already know about those cases :) Buy more than one and make it a more economical purchase! I think they can get 3 in a single box shipment :)

It's HOSS. Dual Pentium 100. :)

Networkman picks up some pretty good deals from a place near him. Picked up some Gateway P133 (ATX format) PCs for dirt cheap. He gave me a few, and MrFluffy and I have used them for crunchers. :)

I've gotta ask, because I've always wondered... do they crunch enough to be worth it? I've had the opportunity to get some cheap, old machines, but I haven't really thought they were worth the effort. What do you think?

The dual P100 is not cracking at this time. I do have a P200, PII266, Cely300A@450, and a Cely466 cracking. :)

Some people don't think they are worth it, but they add a few more WUs a day to my total, so to me, every little bit helps. Especially since I don't have the $$ to do much upgrading right now. :)

I kept an old PII 233 crunching for quite a while after I got a new one, it didn't really do much, but it did something. Also, I think the older machines are supposed to be quite good for RC5, aren't they? At least, I'd heard something about that a long time ago.

Our work fileserver is a PII 300 and I have SETI running on that, WU's take about 20hrs I think....but since it's not doing much else I thought it was worth it....not sure if I would say keep my mums PC (which happens to be a PII 300) running all the time too just for 1 work unit a day....

These guys have a case for $25 shipped with "400W" power supply. $20 without P/S. I think the shipping will get cheaper with multiple units, too. There was another model for $1 less, but only had a "250W" power supply. lol
Good reseller ratings, too.

Don't worry guys, the machine is set up right now, in a spare closet "freeballin'"!
