Cheapest best performance mobo/cpu/ram combo

Ive kinda been out of the loop for a while. No big deal, but just dont know what the best way to go is. Here is my rig now

Amd 3000 939 Single Core
MSI Mobo 939
2 Gigs DDR 3200
EVGA 7900GT
Non sata hard drives
running xp pro

I dont play many games, but I used to, and this was a great rig when I built it. Im not a beginner builder, so I know how to do all this. What is throwing me though is what is the best parts for my buck. So, suggestions please.

I will probably game again soon, but nothing incredible, I have consoles for that.
Things I do want
Plenty of ram, cheaper cpu, cheaper stable mobo, and if there is a little left, a new sata 3gbps hard drive...

I have an extremely cheap budget, so keep it as low as possible. Thanks in advance all for helping an old AT addict...
 
jacks build is pretty good though the integrated graphics is no where near the 780g but id consider spending extra cash on a 2x2gb ddr2 set as that will come in handy in the future and the gskill is 74.99 with free shipping after a code.
 
I've been gaming with

P4 3.0 800FSB
1Gb DDR 400
R9800Pro

The only reason I need an upgrade now, is because I got a 19" LCD, and I can't crank it down to 1024x768 anymore 🙂

If I had your rig I'm not sure I would upgrade until a worthwhile game comes out. Design your PC around the software you want to run.

Honestly, I'm upgrading for Warhammer... :X
 
My #2 system cost about $250 for mobo, psu, ram, cpu and case. Depending on what parts you reuse or can salvage from your current rig you're looking about $250 for a 45w AMD build with 780G. It's solid for what it is.

Or go for something like my sys #1 and OC the heck out of it. The IP35-E was cheap, not sure what the current lineup of intel boards with decent overclocking looks like right now.

To be honest, you're not going to find a much cheaper CPU and MB than what you're running now. It's about the bottom of the barrel.
Maybe some kind of Sempron processor/MB combo would be cheaper. :laugh:

Jack's build is indeed good, but can't the OP carry over his 7900GT graphics card? That solves the problem then.
 
its my intention to carry over my case, my antec psu, my hard drives, my audigy 4, and my video card which is pci-e. So, essentially I am just replacing my memory, cpu, and mobo...
