uh oh, what's going on now?

Rackmounting tends to be for components that are either pro gear or home components where you'd be spending enough that you should really know what you're doing.

You can buy a shelf that mounts in a rack and just place your reciever on that

I have a feeling he'd be buying a rack to do this though :p

Goku, are you just looking for the rack look or do you have another reason you'd want to do this?

You can just get a regular component stand and have everything look pretty neat that way.

When you say regular component stand, you mean basically a bookshelf made for holding electronics? Naw, my reason for asking is because I plan on getting a rackmount; while I've only voiced my opinion on wanting one recently, this has been an ongoing thought for quite some time (Since about 2003 I presume).

Name an audio reciever that is rackmountable, as I'd like to see how much they're normally priced. :p I still plan on getting shelves for a rackmount but would like to see my options. Hey, you wouldn't happen to know anything about rackmounts would you? (I assume that audio equipment is rackmountable because it's so heavy, no?)

(This rackmount(s) would not be limited for computer or audio/video use only)

I mean something like this.

Stand was $40 and gets the job done. No special hardware considerations required.

Meh, fine yoyo, what would YOU get? Those have terrible back inputs, just awful. Any denon products that suppor that kind of functionality?

I would look at my total budget for audio first before I decided what my options were. I don't think I've gotten a straight answer from you on how much you want to spend.

What do you mean by back inputs?

What functionality are you talking about?

And of course the cheapest and IMO best option for you is to get a component input switch.

If you get one with like 4 inputs and then get a receiver with 3 component inputs, you'll be able to have 6 total.

Just some random one: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=180-002

Instead of spending $$$$ on receivers that will give you that functionality, you can get a reasonably priced one and have all the inputs you need with the switch.

I just want him to upgrade his speakers as he's running a value set and looking at electronics that cost multiple thousands of dollars.

I see three probable options

1. He keeps his basic speakers and spends $$$$ on electronics to get all the inputs he needs

2. He spends the same amount of money (with a big portion going to speakers/sub) and gets a well balanced and killer system with use of input switches to get everything hooked up

3. He spends a much lower amount of money and keeps the current speakers and gets a reasonable receiver and uses input switches to get the inputs he needs

I'm hoping he goes for #2 or #3 vs. what is seems he has planned (#1)

So goku, what is your budget? / how much are your parents giving you to do this?
