I tried taking the route of finding a place within walking distance of work...but 250 sqf for 1000 a month was asking too much. Can anybody recommend an area close to Santa Monica where i can find a decent 1 bedroom apartment for 800-900 a month?

close to santa monica - probably not unless you share.

i'm currently applying for a one bedroom in west LA, south of wilshire near ucla for 1550, which is pretty decent for how nice the place is and how quiet it is. there are random places on the westside you might be able to find cheap but you HAVE to move fast - half of my appts for this weekend for apartment showings were cancelled because they were rented out during the week.

you'd be lucky to find a studio for that price...maybe look towards palms/marvista or culver city.

Have you heard of the college student that lived in the library for a year?

Get a roommate. When I was searching for a place in February, I found a couple places in Brentwood that were 2bd/2br for about $1700/month.

See if Mr Roper still rents that upstairs apartment a block from the beach in Santa Monica. Be warned, if your roommates are two hot girls, you will have to pretend to be gay because Mr Roper will have none of that monkey business going on.

$1500....for a studio apartment.....holy freaking COW. Man I keep forgetting how expensive it is to live in Cali. That much will get you a nice 3 bedroom here.

Did you check out Westwood? I just purchased a condo there. Still expensive but cheaper than most other parts of West LA.

I'd still live with them. They've aged well...haha.

Anybody know of the areas south of Santa Monica? Venince? Westchester?
