I tried buying a usb cable and I had made a thread earlier about this but I cant xfer from ata to sata and really dont care to. There must be an easier/faster way to transfer about 80 gigs of files to another hd easily. Im thinking networking but im not sure how to go about doing that. FIrewire is fine but id have to get a card for my old computer.

Just rip the HD out of one, and hook it directly to the other. Over my 100 base full duplex network, I only get 10-15 gig an hour. You can easily beat that by hooking both HD's to one computer.

I'd do what Markfw900 said. You'll get much faster transfer speeds and you will not have to worry about any permissions between systems in networking.

I even leave the case open and 3 hard drives outside it for easy access. Nothing beats having source and destination drives on the same machine.

Cheapest and fastest way is to put the 80 gb drive in the new computer and transfer the files through windows.
