yep we certainly do get hosed when it comes to computer hardware here in the land of Oz....

It might be cheaper for you to Purchase from the US and have it shipped here.

I buy a lot of stuff from the US and I save heaps...even when the huge USPS air express shipping costs are included.

The last Item I bought from a US retailier was my BFG 7800GS OC...it recommended retail price here is AU$550 not icluding shipping, I got it for US$308 (AU$416) including USPS air express shipping which was US$55 alone.

I usually save between AU$50 and AU$150 when buying from the US...and it only takes 5 days to recieve the package...quicker than using Australia post locally.

Stumps, Ive noticed that when ive bought electronic components from the States certain customs duties are levied. I remember a few years ago when i bought some RAM i got charged customs duties for "importing an electronic component" and this took away any dicount i received from buying in the States.

Any comments?

Besides, don't you guys use 50hz power and PAL brocast standards in the downunder?

Regardless, unless you plan to sit really close to the display you'd be far better off getting a lower resolution display of higher quality than the cheapest 1080p panel you can find.

50hz and PAL don't matter once you get in the high definition game, its all the same.

there is an easy way to get around this and most US retailers are more than willing to do it, just to get your business.

They simply market the package as a low value gift (assuming the item is being sent via USPS)and it will not incure any levi's or taxes when it enters Australia.

I've found that a retailer will usually overcharge me on the shipping by a small bit, but I accept that it's the price I must pay to get my item sent to me in around 5 days and with out having to pay extra once it get's here.

USPS also has a cool tracking setup on their website which lets me keep track of the package every step of the way.

It's as easy as that.
