Cheaper AOL (not too hot, just warm enough)

I know I'm a little behind times, I just got cable modem, I called AOL to cancel my $23.99 a month subscription
they offered me BYOA (Bring your own access) for $9.99 a month
instead of the 14.99 that they have listed online.

Also, the customer service rep. gave me 3 months free on AOL.

I figured if someone still has AOL, it might be worth calling them and seeing
if you can get your bill reduced!

yea....then $9.99. $14.99 seems a bit ridiculous. Course I haven't used AOL in what, 6 years.

Why would you want AOL if you already have an ISP? People like the program that much? :Q

I know people don't like AOL for all the obvious reasons, but I have AOL BYOA for only $7.95 per month. They only gave me two months free though. Call and see if they have a lower rate paln and see what they say.

I don't care how cheap AOL is, they really piss me off.
Customer service sucks.
Tried to cancel from the freebie cd you get in the mail and they won't let you cancel and end up charging you for it.
Then what's even worse is their telemarketers keep calling you every 2-3 days to bug the crap out of you and won't let you off the phone...So annoying...it's driving me nuts.

Have to get one of the tele-buster things..Anyone tried it? Does it really work?

So you get the honor of paying $9.99 for NOTHING. Whoa, what a hot deal, sign me up. If you already have internet access, all AOL can offer you are inane chat rooms, inept service and a barrage of ads. My God, those people should stop paying AOL to rip them off and invest that 10 bucks a month. Maybe they can save up enough to buy the Brooklyn Bridge or some lovely oceanfront property in Kansas.

I love AOL, it confines 23 million people I don't want to have anything to do with in one easily avoided domain. Just apply a couple of decent filters and all those morons just cease to exist. Hell, AOL is just a cage for the untrained apes of the internet world. We can look and laugh, but the zookeepers have them all penned up so that they can't hurt anyone.

You, obviously, don't know how to use AOL to it's fullest potential ;) It's not allowed to discuss here and it's not sexual  :)

Okie, Okie, JUST LISTEN! AOL has the advantage of Warez!!! You are able to get in chat rooms and download about anything you want, better that IRC and better than Newsgroups. I hear everyone dog on AOL for the fact of shear ignorance. It was and still is the greatest source of getting warez. Some of the worlds greatest warez groups started on AOL (i.e. UPS, Core, etc.). I personally don't download warez anymore;), mainly due to the fact that I work in the Cybercrime division of our great government. I have had first hand knowledge of how AOL works and what the advantages and disadvantages are of said program, and I do believe that only the ignorant lash out. Please educate yourself before you speak!

Okie, Okie. We have listened, and you have "educated" us. Thanks for stopping by as a guest lecturer. I am sure you know the way out.

Good bye,

So we shouldn't "dog" AOL because it's an easy source of warez.....riiiiiiiiight. And you're asking us to educate ourselves. Whatever...

AOL got some good stuff.. but why get AOL when you can get cable or dsl for $40.

I get 2 meg/sec speed with cable and I still think it's slow...

I can't imagine myself dl'ing a 1 meg program for 20 mins..

You can use them just for email for $3.99 a month if you pester them. If you're a voicestream customer for more than 12 months you can get AOL for free.

I'd vouch for AOhelL - I use it when I'm on the go around the nation.

never in a million years would I use it anywhere there was Ethernet or even at the airport where they have those cool Net booths :) Because like they said, everything on AOL is on the net that you need. All the hot chicks that someone mentioned earlier are available via AIM, MSN, maybe ICQ. Perhaps just get Trillian and you'll be hot-chick'ed out!

I just use a CC for the 3 months accounts while I'm out and cancel it when I get back. No big deal...but my parents used to be overly dependent on AOL so much that they wouldn't let me get road runner JUST BECAUSE they would be "Oh so lost on the big bad internet" without AOL.

See what kind of psychological side effects it can have?! haha :)

I set it up like a year and a half ago...used AOL from like '94-'99, when I didn't need it as a dial up I didn't want to lose the AOL account I'd had for 5 years. I called and they dropped it to $3.99, then in like late 2000 Voicestrem sent me a flier on the benefits of senior Voicestream customers and one was free webmail from AOL. I called AOL, gave them my Voicestream info they confirmed it and I have the same email account now for like 8 years without paying to use it. I use AOL as a mobile ISP occasionally when I travel, but i guess I still don't use it enough to get charged.
