Hmmm, in light of those posts, it seems my ertswhile hot deal is cooling rapidly.

Am researching these links (thanks Rossman!) and, i believe, soon have a new host.

A note on 1and1: I signed up, never used it. But friends of mine report that they have a million flash templates, so people can set up a decent-looking flash site without any effort, BUT the templates are stored on a folder above theirs, so they have no access to them. From what i've heard, it's a good way to set up a simple, no frills, non-customizable site, which is great for a lot of people...but not that great if you're looking to set up a more self-designed site, which i why i haven't made the time to try it yet.

Anyone else have any experience with it...someone who's set up a site there, maybe?

Dave.

You can use the templates - or you can use the space as a regular host..

Mine:

Home - This is a basic template - I won't be using it for long.
Message boards

I have installed many PHP scripts, including phpBB2 and Gallery - no problems, great speed.

HostPC.com 250MB/6GB for $25/yr with DirectAdmin control panel.

SolidInternet.com (currently not accepting new customers) 500MB/10GB for $59.95/yr. The only "catch" is no CGI/Perl support which shouldn't be an issue for most web sites. This is run by the very popular and highly rated web host, Myacen.com

Edit: SolidInternet is $59.95/yr not per month, thanks for the catch 🙂

After searching for reviews, I just signed up with HostPC for $25/yr. Thanks.

Excellent choice, please make sure to register for their forums as well.

What do you think of the DirectAdmin control panel? I hope one day it surpasses cPanel.

That's funny, I was going to mention that. I really like DirectAdmin. The organization, clarity, and power makes it the best GUI admin tool I've used with a virtual host.

Their servers seem pretty snappy and I liked that I could pay through paypal.

I have been using ITX Design for a couple of years hosting 2 sites/domains.

$11.95 /month for the Power Plan hosting .
200 Megs of Space
4 Gigs Transfer

Excellent support & control panel.

I also use 8-95.com to host another site.

$3.95 /mo
300 Megs of Space
4 Gigs Transfer

They also have a $17.90 /year plan
50 Megs of Space
1 Gigs Transfer

Support is web based only I believe & control panel is not that user friendly.

I signed up for the 1and1 deal...So far so good.

I also signed on with hostpc...thanks Rossman! Now, if i can just get my domain switched from vipsnet, everything'll be wonderful...

Dave.

www.e-rice.net will give you the same thing for $44.95/year. I'm on my second year with them, and they've never been down for more than 10 minutes a month. I've never had a SINGLE problem with them, and their customer support is phenominal.

e-rice.net has been out of sorts for the last few days...I guess Alan is on vacation.
FTP is down and e-mail is down, also (at least for me). Bummer! :disgust:😱
