It's no real issue it's just that I don't want another domain right now and my initial question was if I HAD to get the domain name linked to this new hosting.

:)
That's it.

My story:

purchased 2 domain name from Namecheap.com for $9.92 with whois proctection
Purchased cookiehost webhosting for $5/year plus added a secondary domain free of charge

Rating for Namecheap.com

Usability - 9
Ordering process - 9
Completion - 9

Rating for CookieHost.com

Signup - 8
Order process - 9
Completion - 10
Stability - ? (only because I have not had it but two days)
Support - 6

I gave support a 6 because even though I was told they are a 24x7 support it usually takes around 4-8hours before I get a reply back. I'd like quicker support or a telephone number for prompt service, mind you they are not urgent *OMG the server is down* issues I just like knowing that I an appreciated as a paying customer.

Thank you for sharing your experiences with namecheap.com and cookiehost.com

Unfortunately you can't expect that at these prices. However there are a few web hosts which offer faster support (30-60 minute responses) but they cost around $10/mo.

Ah, not complaining just saying a company that is aimed at becoming a good host should have faster response time. I should have been leary after not seeing anything about uptime or customer service numbers on the site.

I just checked and NameCheap's CSR verifies that you can get the higher plan now and change to the lower one at the end of the year, if that is all you need.

Response time, 1:28 eeaarly Sunday morning (5:51 am to 7:19 am Eastern time) :)

Question:
Posted: 12/30/2007 05:51
If I sign up for the maxi plan now then after the year is up realize that a smaller plan would better suit my needs, is it possible to change at that time and renew at the price for the smaller plan?

Answer:
Yes it is possible.

Sweet Regards,

It has been asked twice in this thread about auto-renewal. This is what I read in their Web Hosting Agreement.

2. Term.
The initial service term of the Agreement shall begin on the date that CookieHost.com generates an e-mail message to Customer announcing the activation of the Customer?s account (the ?Service Commencement Date?) and shall continue for the number of months stated in the Order (the ?Initial Term?). Upon expiration of the Initial Term, this Agreement shall automatically renew for up to three successive renewal terms of the same length as the Initial Term (each a ?Renewal Term?) unless CookieHost.com or Customer provides the other with written notice of non-renewal at least thirty (30) days prior to the expiration of the Initial Term or then-current Renewal Term, as applicable. The Initial Term and any Renewal Term may be referred to collectively in this Agreement as the ?Term.?

I just also checked Netfirms' TOS, and they have a (less-evil?) autorenewal policy.

Can someone comment on cookiehost vs. netfirms autorenewal?

BTW, netfirms affers their mid-tier plan for $10/first year.

Anyone know if this place would be a viable place to host game maps for a counterstrike server? Download speeds?
Netfirms had horrible download speed and regularly stopped the downloads. Files are anywhere from 1-5 mb

I've been having some problems with them, and I just signed up. I haven't opened a ticket yet... but it seems like at times page loading will just hang for five minutes, then start working.

Until this morning I hadn't used my account for a few weeks, but I noticed it's hit-or-miss whether or not the page will actually load. Previously, I couldn't complain about the service.

Is this site still recommended? If not, who's the best bargain host right now? I could use one.

My price/performance leader for web hosting has been hostmonster.com for a while now. I am not sure what the latest one year bargain etc is.

This Cookiehost place still has a deal going though.
