Cheap way to get to europe?

Im in Charlotte, and I was wondering if I could get to europe by boat, instead of Air since the tickets are so damned expensive. Anyone?

tickets are expensive now? this is the off season, the cheapest time to travel abroad. A woman on my job just got RT tix to Russia for $515, and it wasn't on the web. "damned expensive" is relative, I guess.

Taking a boat accross the Atlantic will take weeks at least. Do you have that much free time?

Would you drive to atlanta to fly out? I have gotten tickets at www.thedailyauction.com to go to amsterdam couple years ago. I believe they still do it. I think 2 tickets were well under 500 and this was in June. They are all flights on Lufthansa. maybe you can get a cheap airline to ATL and then connect up with them.
