I picked up the following speakers at Dell during the recent 20% off promotion. I added these as an afterthought. For the money, they're a great addition to my Inspiron 8000.

I'll bet you kill your battery life by at least 20% when doing this. They get no power from a brick...all from your PC. Not a good idea.

Besides, who wants to lug speakers around with their laptop?

Thanks for the post MesBoogie. I bet you're a guitar player. I too have an I8K, and the weakest part of this otherwise bodacious laptop is its sound system. Thanks for the heads up, I'll have to pick up a pair. And as to the guy who posted before me, he only has one battery for his laptop apparently.

I don;t think people will be lugging these around, but rather just put them on their desk when the laptop is plugged in. This will improve the sound quality over the on-board speakers, and not require an exctra wall outlet. A great idea if you have an extra USB port.

BTW, these speakers static a LOT. I got 2 pairs from a promo Outpost did 6 months ago for a CDR
spindle. I got 2 50-pack spindles (bundled with speakers) and $5 rebate off the already low price spindle price of $9.95. Outpost even sent me my rebate checks 🙂.
Not too shabby for its price but don't expect great sound quality.

To those who've posted in regards to sound quality of the speakers:

What to you expect for less than $5? No, these speakers aren't going to "blow you away" sound-wise. They are a step up from the speakers on most laptops. My speakers have no static at all. I don't plan to lug them around; however, they aren't that big at around 6" high. They are a little bulky in the laptop bag that I have.

And, yes, I do play guitar (and have a Mesa Boogie amp).

NE1 seen any reviews on them. I know they are cheap. If they don't have static, I am in, but would hate to get a pair with a bunch of static.

Perhaps my 2 pairs of speakers are faulty?
It statics almost every time I turn up the volume (maybe dirty pots).
Read the dimensions. It may be a bit too big for most people's laptop bags.
what MesBoogies says is true though, for $5 how can you go wrong 🙂?

My laptop only has one USB outlet... :|

You can get one of those cheap 4-port USB hubs that's free after rebate (Circuit City, CompUSA, etc., have 'em from time to time). There should be enough power for the speakers so that you don't have to use the power adapter for the hub, right? Though I'm not sure...
